Vikings beat Carroll 5-1 in CCIW Automatic Qualifier

MOLINE, Ill. – It didn't take very long for Augustana to dispatch of Carroll in the semi-final round of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin's automatic qualifying tournament in women's tennis. The Vikings beat the Pioneers 5-1 on Friday, April 28 at the Quad City Tennis Club.
 
With the win, head coach Jon Miedema's club advance to the championship match of the CCIW AQ against the winner of the second semi-final between Wheaton and Carthage.
 
The Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles and then won two singles matches to clinch the match.
 
Senior Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) picked up an 8-1 win at number one doubles over Lauren Miketinac and Alison Lambrecht. The number two doubles team of senior Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) beat Megan Krzewinski and Tiff Maggioncalda 8-4. The number three doubles match went to the Vikings team of freshman Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) and senior Vicki Andonova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) by a score of 8-2 over Shanna Modgen and Megan Wiersma.
 
Lauren Goggin beat Miketinac 6-0; 6-1 at number one and Dana Goggin took care of Megan Krzewinski 6-2; 6-0 and that ended the match.
 
Carrol's point came at number six singles when Wiersma won by default over Lombardi.
 
The Vikings were ahead at numbers three, four and five singles when the match was terminated. Schaffer was leading Shanna Mogden 6-3 at number three and Badawi was winning 6-0 against Lambrecht 6-0 at number four.  Andonova was in front of Maggioncalda 6-1 at number five.
 
Augustana is now 23-6 overall and the Vikings were 7-1 in the CCIW in the fall.
