Sophomore Jack Morkin won at both singles and doubles in the
Vikings 5-4 CCIW win at Carroll on Sunday, April 23.

WAUKESHA, Wis. – For the second straight day the Augustana men's tennis team had to battle to the end to defeat one of the "W" schools in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. On Saturday, April 22 it took a win in the last singles match on the court by senior Connor Woolf to beat Carthage 5-4 in Kenosha. On Sunday, April 23 the Vikings defeated Carroll 5-4 in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Like the day before, Augustana fell behind 2-1 after the doubles portion of the meet and had to win four of the singles matches to pick up the team victory. Also like the win over Carthage, it was the bottom of the lineup that carried the day as the Vikings won at three through six in singles.

Sophomore Jack Morkin (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) won a tight three-set battle at number three over Joseph Harrison 6-4; 3-6; 6-4. Woolf took care of Joshua Ramos 6-1; 6-1 at number four and senior Nicholas Prabhakar (Rockford Lutheran HS, Belvidere, Ill.) defeated Mitchel Gjerseth 6-3; 6-0 at number five. Freshman Scott Daluga (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) beat Ronald Dignadice 6-0; 6-2 at number six.

Junior Samuel Totten (University HS, Normal, Ill.) fell to Peter Jaeger at number one singles by a score of 6-7; 7-6; 12-10 and junior Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) lost 6-4; 6-4 to Chayce Roecker at number two.

Morkin also helped account for the lone doubles win for head coach Jon Miedema's crew as he teamed with freshman David Gunther Treis (Brookfield Central HS, Brookfield, Wis.) to beat Gjerseth and Adam Piontek 8-4 at number three.

Totten and Pohl lost 8-2 at number one doubles to Jaeger and Matt Michael. Woolf and senior Jonathon Elsey (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) dropped an 8-5 decision to Harrison and Roecker at number two.

Augustana moved to 13-9 with the win and 6-1 in the CCIW and that clinched second place in the conference heading into the league tournament. The Vikings have won eight of their last 10 matches.

Carroll fell to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in the CCIW. The Viking will finish up the dual meet portion of the season on Sunday, April 30 with a non-conference match against Luther in Decorah, Iowa.
