5-4 win over Carthage with a three-set victory
at number four singles.

KENOSHA, Wis. – A stirring three-set, come-from-behind victory by senior Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) proved to be the decisive point as Augustana defeated Carthage 5-4 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's tennis action on Saturday, April 22 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Woolf's win at number four singles came over Lukasz Jaworski. Woolf dropped the first set 7-5 but then came back to win 6-4; 6-3 with the team score knotted at 4-4 in the match.

The Vikings fell behind 2-1 after the doubles portion and were forced to win at least four of the six singles matches to defeat the Red Men.

Only the number three doubles team of sophomore Jack Morkin (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and senior Nicholas Prabhakar (Rockford Lutheran HS, Belvidere, Ill.) were able to come up winners. Morkin and Prabhakar beat Jaworski and Fordy Leipold 9-7.

Augustana lost at number one doubles when juniors Samuel Totten (University HS, Normal, Ill.) and Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) dropped an 8-4 decision to Herman Abban and Pawel Jaworski. The Vikings number two team of Woolf and fellow senior Jonathon Elsey (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) fell 8-6 to Chris Conley and Matt Curry.

When the action shifted to singles, the Augustana fortunes turned for the better. Although Totten fell 3-6; 0-6 at number one to Abban and Morkin lost 2-6; 2-6 at number three to Conley, the Vikings pulled off four wins to secure the victory.

Pohl bounced Pawel Jaworski 6-2; 6-4 at number two and Elsey beat Oscar Irazoque in a three-setter 6-4; 1-6; 6-2 at number five. Freshman Scott Daluga (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) defeated Leipold 6-3; 6-1 at number six to set up Woolf's heroics at number four.

Augustana has now won seven of its last nine matches and is 12-9 overall and 5-1 in the CCIW. Carthage fell to 9-12 overall and 3-3 in the league. The Vikings play at Carroll tomorrow (Sunday, April 23) in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
