Men's tennis defeats St. Ambrose for the 18th straight time

rolled past St. Ambrose 8-1.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana's dominance over St. Ambrose in men's tennis continued on Thursday, April 20 with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Bees on the Lower Campus Courts. The Vikings have now won the last 18 meetings between the two Quad City area schools and 28 of the last 29.
 
The last time Augustana lost to St. Ambrose in men's tennis was in 2005 by a score of 4-3. Prior to that, the last St. Ambrose victory came in 1996.
 
It was "Senior Day" for the four Augustana seniors on the team and three of them played a part in the victory. Seniors Jonathon Elsey (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) teamed up at number two doubles to beat Michael Allee and Bradley Wheeler 8-2. Senior Nicholas Prabhakar (Rockford Lutheran HS, Belvidere, Ill.) and sophomore Jack Morkin (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) won at number three doubles over Dan Daluga and Jake Temple 8-2.
 
Augustana led 3-0 after doubles as the number one team of juniors Samuel Totten (University HS, Normal, Ill.) and Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) beat Bart Van Rooijen and Tom Greenwood to complete the sweep.
 
When the scene shifted to singles the Vikings success continued. Totten beat Van Rooijen 6-1; 7-5 at number one and Pohl handled Greenwood 6-4; 6-4 at number two.
 
Freshman Scott Daluga (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) beat Michael Allee 6-3; 6-0 at number four and Prabhakar defeated Colin Stiefer 6-0; 6-0 at number five. Sophomore Alex Riddle (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) won a three-set match against Bradley Wheeler at number five 6-2; 1-5; 10-4.
 
The lone loss for the Vikings came at number five where Elsey lost 3-6; 5-7 to Jake Anderson.
 
Augustana is now 11-9 overall and will face both Carthage (Saturday, April 22 in Kenosha, Wisconsin) and Carroll (Sunday, April 23 in Waukesha, Wisconsin) on the road this weekend. The Vikings have won six of their last eight matches.
