Vikings win four of six dual meets; finish sixth at CCIW Championships; Mia Polinski earns all-conference honors
 
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana finished the 2016-17 swimming season with a 4-2 dual meet record and a sixth-place finish at the CCIW Championships in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Sophomore Mia Polinski (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) earned all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the 400 individual medley.
 
Coach Dan Lloyd's Vikings won three straight dual meets to start the season. On October 29, they hosted a double dual versus Knox and Loras, downing the Prairie Fire 167-61 and the Duhawks 156-70. Logging wins for Augustana were the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. The first unit was made up of Carissa Boerboom (Rosemount HS, Inver Heights, Minn.), Polinski, Gabrielle Ainsworth (Rockton Hononegah HS, South Beloit, Ill.) and Morgan Brockhouse (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.), while the latter was comprised of Kristin Schoenecker (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.), Sara Clark (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.), Patti Grod (Glenbrook North HS, Northbrook, Ill.) and Nicole Olsen (Plainfield East HS, Romeoville, Ill.). Individual winners included Polinski in the 200 individual medley, Schoenecker in the 100 backstroke, Victoria Frank (Hinsdale South HS, Wilowbrook, Ill.) in the 1000 freestyle and Brockhouse in the 50 freestyle.
 
On November 18, the Vikings traveled to Monmouth and defeated the Scots 153-46, winning 10 of 11 events. Brockhouse (50 and 100 freestyles), Schoenecker (200 freestyle and 100 backstroke) and Polinski (200 IM and 100 breaststroke) each won two individual events. Those three combined with Ainsworth to win the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay of Grod, Clark, Sara Hovren (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and Olsen was a winner as well.
 
Ainsworth won the 100 butterfly as Augustana finished third and the seven-team Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on November 19.
 
Lloyd's squad closed out the calendar year by setting a dozen (at the time) season bests at the Jean Freeman Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 2-3.
 
The new year started with the Vikings dropping a 205-77 dual to Carthage in Kenosha, Wisconsin on January 7. Rachel Heah (Lockport HS, Bayan Lepas, Malaysia) delivered Augustana's top performance, winning the 200 backstroke
 
With Brockhouse recording the Vikings' highest finish—third place in the 50 freestyle—Augustana was sixth among 12 teams at the Grinnell Invitational on January 20-21.
 
On January 28, the Vikings split a double dual at Wheaton, downing North Central 127-104, but falling to the host Thunder 200-62. Ashley Comeau (Romeoville HS, Romeoville, Ill.) highlighted Augustana performance, winning the one-meter diving competition.
 
The diving portion of the CCIW Championship was hosted by Illinois Wesleyan on February 3-4. Comeau finished 10th at one meters. Polinski's third in the 400 individual medley highlighted Augustana's performance at the swimming championships, hosted by Carthage on February 9-11.
