Samuel Totten (Normal University HS, Normal, Ill.) and
Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) picked up a significant win at number one doubles but it was the only victory for the Augustana men's tennis team on Saturday, February 18. The Vikings dropped an 8-1 decision to Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the Eau Claire YMCA.
Totten and Pohl have not played together recently because of an injury suffered by Totten a few weeks ago. He still has not played any singles since getting hurt and Saturday was his first doubles action. Totten and Pohl are now 6-3 this year and they defeated Mike Mauthe and Andrew Dahl 8-5 at number one.
The Vikings had a golden opportunity to win a second doubles match on Saturday but the number two team of sophomore
Jack Morkin (Normal University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and senior
Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) dropped a 9-7 decision to Will Weyenberg and Danny Schoen. The number three team of freshman David Gunter Treis
(Brookfield Central HS, Brookfield, Wis.) and senior
Nicholas Prabhakar (Rockford Lutheran HS, Belvidere, Ill.) lost 8-3 to Zach Janssen and Conrad Felten.
In singles action the BluGolds rolled to six straight victories to clinch the match. Morkin had a three-setter at number two before falling to Dahl 2-6; 7-6; 5-10.
Mauthe defeated Morkin 6-0; 6-1 at number one and Schoen beat Woolf 6-3; 6-3 at number three. Conrad Felton rolled past Prabhakar 6-0; 6-0 at number four and Janssen beat Gunther Treis 6-2; 6-1 at number five. UW-EC's Augie Badura beat the Vikings
Alex Riddle (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) 6-4; 6-3 at number six.
Augustana will be in action again on February 28 in Orlando, Florida against Rose-Hulman.
