Junior Jared Ekberg was a winner in both the 100 freestyle and 100
butterfly Saturday in Augustana's dual meet at Carthage.
KENOSHA, Wis. – Junior Jared Ekberg's
(Rockford Christian HS, Rockford, Ill.) wins in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly Saturday highlighted Augustana's performance in a dual meet versus Carthage at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center. The host Red Men won 11 of 14 events and tied for another first in posting a 150.5-107.5 win. Coach

In the 100 fly, Ekberg won in :52.95, followed by senior Jake Speechley
(Lockport HS, Lockport., Ill.) and junior Anthony Santangelo
(St. Andrews Episcopal, Brandon, Miss.) in :55.75 and 1:00.14, respectively. In the 100 free, Ekberg swam a winning :48.41, while freshman Jeremy Wolf
(Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) was second in :50.11 and senior
Brandon Marcy (Riverton HS, Riverton, Ill.) third in :52.70.
In the 50 freestyle, Speechley finished in a dead heat for first place with Carthage's Mitchell Mages. Each finished in :22.36.
Ekberg (1:03.05) also grabbed a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, while junior Bryan Haage
(Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) finished second in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at :54.99.
In the 50 backstroke, sophomore Greg Roskowic
(Rockford East HS, Rockford, Ill.) and senior
Miguel Rodriguez (Boylan HS, Rockford, Ill.) took second and third in :27.33 and :27.44, respectively. Haage (:28.75) and Marcy (:33.55) did the same in the 50 breaststroke, as did Haage (1:59.42) and sophomore Adam Smith
(Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) (2:07.05) in the 200 individual medley.
Junior Tyler Andrews
(Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) claimed a third-place finish, swimming a 12:28.58 in the 1000 freestyle. Wolf (5:26.03) was third in the 500 free.
Lloyd's 200 medley relay team of Ekberg, Haage, Speechley and sophomore Souhail Rhafiri
(Rabat, Morocco) took second in 1:38.28. Wolf, sophomore Ben Peinsipp
(St. Viator HS, Lombard, Ill.), Smith and Rodriguez swam a 1:31.96 to take second in the 200 free relay.
