Senior Christos Giatras won by fall last night in the Vikings
24-15 loss at North Central.
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central won six of the 10 weight classes en route to a 24-15 win over 12
th ranked Augustana on Wednesday, November 15 in Naperville, Illinois. It was the first dual meet of the season for both teams.
The Vikings gave away six points via forfeit at 125 pounds and fell behind 9-0 after the first two weight classes.
Senior Brendan Gould
(Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) scored the first victory of the night for Augustana when he beat Anthony Rink 9-4 at 141 pounds. However, the Cardinals won the next three weight classes and heading into 174 pounds the home team led 20-3.
Senior Trace Timmons
(Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) beat Matt Marcotte 3-1 at 174 and senior Christos Giatras
(Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) pinned Josh Bouis in 2:32 to trim the lead to 20-12 with two weight classes left.
North Central's Tyler Vittal clinched the win for the Cardinals with a 12-3 major decision over Trystyn Schoonover
(Champaign Central HS, Champaign, Ill.) at 197.
Augustana sophomore Adarios Jones
(Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) beat Audel Ochoa 8-3 at 285 to close out the match.
In the early going Viking freshman Josh Diehl
(Oskaloosa HS, Oskaloosa, Iowa) dropped a 10-7 decision to Marc Fleenor at 125. Freshman Daniel Terronez
(Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) lost a narrow 6-4 match to Ben Williamson at 149 and senior Nick Torres
(Lincoln-Way Central HS, Manhattan, Ill.) lost 6-3 at 165 to Cameron Hayes.
Augustana is idle this weekend and will be in action again on Tuesday, November 21 with a 7:00 p.m. dual meet against MacMurray in Jacksonville, Illinois. The Highlanders are coached by former Viking standout Alberto Quiros.
