Sophomore Brooke Harmon had seven kills and six blocks Tuesday,
but Augustana fell to Elmhurst in five sets at Carver Center.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Elmhurst won six straight points in the fifth set Tuesday, rallying from a 9-4 deficit to defeat Augustana 15-13 and win the teams' CCIW match at Carver Center. The Vikings dropped to 9-10 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while the Bluejays improved to 6-9 on the year and 2-1 in the league.
A kill by senior
Emily Westermeyer (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) coming out of the turnaround put the hosts on top 9-4 in the deciding set. However, an Augustana service error sparked a 6-0 run by Elmhurst. Amy Schryver had a pair aces and Allie Skowron two kills in the spurt. The Vikings eventually tied it at 13-all, but an Alli Rogers kill and a Skowron ace closed out the more than two-and-a-half hour marathon.
Westermeyer had six kills as Augustana won the first game 30-28. Trailing 28-27, the Vikings won the final three points with set point coming on a Bluejay attack error.
An 8-0 Elmhurst run keyed a 25-20 Bluejay win in game two. A Hannah Davis kill started the spurt, which began with the visitors trailing 8-5 and ended with them leading 13-8. Schryver was on the serve for the last seven points and contributed an ace. Set point came on a Rogers kill.
Augustana led 21-20 in the third, but Elmhurst answered with the final five points of the game, including another Schryver ace that provided set point.

Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and sophomore
Brooke Harmon (Lindbergh HS, St. Louis, Mo.) gave the Vikings back the lead and set point came on an Elmhurst attack error.
VanEarwage finished with 13 kills to lead Augustana. Westermeyer added 11. Sophomore
Grace Bialobok (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Homewood, Ill.) and Harmon had eight and seven kills, respectively, while committing just one attack error apiece. They each recorded a match-high six blocks as well. Sophomore
Brooke Keegan (Hall HS, Ladd, Ill.) had 22 assists, followed by
McKenzie Zambrano's
(Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) 17. VanEarwage had 34 digs and senior
Claire Martin (Mother McAuley HS, Orland Park, Ill.) 30.
Rogers had a match-high 22 kills for the Bluejays. Setter Kelly Townsend recorded 59 assists and Schryver had 37 digs and four aces.
On Thursday, October 5, the Vikings host seventh-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at Carver Center beginning at 7:00 p.m.
