Viking women down Bees in season opener

Senior Kristin Schoenecker won two individual events and led off
a winning relay Friday, as Augustana defeated St. Ambrose in a
dual meet in Davenport, Iowa.

DAVENPORT, Iowa -  Augustana won eight of nine individual swimming events and both relays Friday to defeat St. Ambrose 159-59 at the Davenport Central Pool. Senior Kristin Schoenecker (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) and sophomore Morgan Brockhouse (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) each won two individual events and swam on a winning relay. Coach Dan Lloyd's Vikings are back in action at the Carver Center Pool on Saturday, October 28, hosting Knox and Millikin at 1:00 p.m.
 
Schoenecker won the 200 (2:06.00) and 500 (5:39.51) freestyles and Brockhouse the 50 free (:25.76) and 100 butterfly (1:06.50). Schoenecker led off the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:57.58), followed by freshman Marissa Jaskae (Waubonsie Valley HS, Aurora, Ill.), junior Taylor Campbell (Tuscola HS, Tuscola, Ill.) and senior Nicole Olsen (Plainfield East HS, Romeoville, Ill.). Brockhouse anchored a winning effort in the 200 medley relay (1:57.85), with Rachel Heah (Convent Green Lane HS, Penang, Malaysia), senior Sara Hovren (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and sophomore Gabrielle Ainsworth (Hononegah HS, South Beloit, Ill.) handling the first three legs.
 
Augustana swept the top three spots in the 100 backstroke. Heah won in 1:06.26, followed by sophomore Carissa Boerboom (Rosemount HS, Inner Grove Heights, Minn.) and Campbell in 1:06.61 and 1:08.99, respectively.
 
The Vikings went 1-2 in three individual events. Hovren won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.89, followed by sophomore Chelsea Brandt (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) in 1:19.88. Freshman Rebecca Schaechter (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) won the 1000 free in 12:28.44, with sophomore Grace O'Shea (Sacred Heart-Griffin HS, Springfield, Ill.) second in 12:43.10. Ainsworth (:57.47) and Campbell (:59.70) finished first and second in the 100 free.
 
Hovren (2:23.62) and Ainsworth (2:27.58) were second and third in the 200 individual medley and sophomore Patti Grod (Glenbrook North HS, Northbrook, Ill.) took second in the 100 butterfly, finishing in1:07.11.
 
Heah (2:15.55), Olsen (:26.60) and Jaskae (6:02.46) finished third, respectively in the 200, 50 and 500 freestyles.
 
Sophomore Julia Harris (United Township HS, Silvis, Ill.) finish third in both diving events. She scored 136.10 at three meters and 155.85 at one meter.
