Augustana women win big over Knox and Millikin

Rachel Heah won the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley Saturday,
as Augustana downed Knox and Millikin at the Carver Center Pool.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -  Augustana won five of 10 individual events and both relays Saturday to score big wins over Knox and Millikin at the Carver Center Pool. Coach Dan Lloyd's women took down the Prairie Fire 178-27 and the Big Blue 141-73 and are now 3-0 in dual meets this year. Next up is a dual at Monmouth on Friday, November 17, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
 
Rachel Heah (Convent Green Lane HS, Penang, Malaysia) was a double winner, taking the 100 backstroke in 1:06.24 and leading a 1-2-3 Augustana sweep in the 200 individual medley. Her 2:25.49 won the latter event, with sophomore Gabrielle Ainsworth (Hononegah HS, South Beloit, Ill.) taking second in 2:27.08 and senior Kristin Schoenecker (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) third in 2:30.28.
 
Ainsworth and Schoenecker won individual events as well, taking the 100 butterfly (1:03.70) and 200 freestyle (2:05.88), respectively.
 
The Vikings' other individual winner came in one-meter diving, where sophomore Julie Harris (United Township HS, Silvis, Ill.) won with a score of 165.70 and junior Ashley Comeau (Romeoville HS, Romeoville, Ill.) took second at 127.90.
 
Augustana picked up a pair of relay wins. Heah, senior Sara Hovren (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.), Ainsworth and senior Nicole Olsen (Plainfield East HS, Romeoville, Ill.) took the 200 medley relay in 1:59.68 and Schoenecker, senior Kelly Wingerson (Rock Island HS, Cedar Rapids, Iowa), sophomore Patti Grod (Glenbrook North HS, Northbrook, Ill.) and classmate Morgan Brockhouse (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.58.
 
Brockhouse and Olsen finished 1-2 in both the 50 and 100 freestyles. Brockhouse swam a :26.16 at 50 yards and Olsen a :27.10. In the 100, Brockhouse finished in :57.91 and Olsen in :59.71.
 
In the 1000 freestyle, freshman Marissa Jaskae (Waubonsie Valley HS, Aurora, Ill.) was second in 12:10.78 and senior Victoria Witkowski (Lake County Lutheran HS, Dousman, Wis.) third in 13:42.34. The Vikings got similar finishes from Jaskae (5:58.71) and classmate Rebecca Schaechter (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) (6:11.04) in the 500 free, as well as Hovren (1:15.57) and sophomore Chelsea Brandt (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) (1:20.52) in the 100 breaststroke.
 
Grod (1:07.40) was second in the 100 butterfly and junior Taylor Campbell (Tuscola HS, Tuscola, Ill.) (2:14.54) finished third in the 100 backstroke.
