Augustana men overwhelm Knox and Millikin

200 medley relay Saturday as Augustana defeated Knox and Millikin at
the Carver Center Pool.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -  Augustana won every event Saturday in cruising to decisive wins over Knox and Millikin at the Carver Center Pool. The Vikings downed the Prairie Fire 170-21 and defeated the Big Blue 164-25. Coach Dan Lloyd's men are off to a 3-0 dual meet start this season and will be back in action on Friday, November 17 in a dual at Monmouth scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
 
Eight Augustana swimmers picked up victories in nine individual events. Freshman Brett Keefe (Rockford Christian HS, Machesney Park, Ill.) was the only double winner for the Vikings, capturing the 100 butterfly in :55.81 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.39. Keefe's breaststroke win led an Augustana sweep of the top three spots. Souhail Rhafiri (Rabat, Morocco) was second in 1:04.45 and classmate Zach Ogden (United Township HS, Silvis, Ill.) was third in 1:06.10.
 
Lloyd's crew also claimed the top three spots in the 50 freestyle, where senior Jacob Speechley (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) won in :22.36, Miguel Rodriguez took second in :22.92 and sophomore Ben Peinsipp (St. Viator HS, Lombard, Ill.) third in :23.09.
 
Sophomore Adam Smith (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) led a 1-2-3 Viking sweep in the 500 free. He won in 5:17.22, followed by Speechley's 5:25.70 and freshman Andrew Doerr-Pasanen's (Santiago HS, Corona, Calif.) 5:29.35. Augustana also swept the top three spots in the 200 individual medley. Sophomore Bryan Haage (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) won in 2:00.47, followed by classmate Jared Ekberg (Rockford Christian HS, Rockford, Ill.) in 2:03.83 and Doerr-Pasanen in 2:16.99.
 
Other winners for the Vikings included sophomore Connor Bullard (Auburn HS, Loves Park, Ill.) in the 1000 freestyle (11:11.21), freshman Jeremy Wolf (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) in the 200 free (1:51.30), Rodriguez in the 100 free (:49.48) and Ekberg in the 100 backstroke (54.53).
 
Augustana won both relays as well. Ekberg led off and Speechley anchored a winning effort in the 200 medley relay. Rhafiri and sophomore Tito Quinones (LaVista HS, Papillion, Neb.) handled the middle legs of a 1:39.40 performance. The Vikings won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:31.99. Smith led off, followed by Wolf and senior Brandon Marcy (Riverton HS, Riverton, Ill.), with Haage anchoring.
 
Other notable performances included sophomore Greg Roskowic's (Rockford East HS, Rockford, Ill.) second-place :57.68 in the 100 backstroke, Wolf's second-place :50.37 in the 100 free and Rhafiri's second-place 1:53.05 in the 200 freestyle. Tyler Andrews was third (12:37.17) in the 100 freestyle and Quinones swam a third-place :57.28 in the 100 butterfly.
