CHICAGO, Ill. – Augustana won its second consecutive match via straight sets on Tuesday, downing North Park on the road. Coach
Kelly Bethke's Vikings improved to 11-13 on the season and 2-4 in the CCIW, while the hosts fell to 13-10 overall and 2-4 in the league.
A 6-0 Augustana run midway through was the key in a 25-22 first-game win. A kill by senior
Emily Westermeyer (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) broke a 10-10 tie and with sophomore
Brooke Harmon (Lindbergh HS, St. Louis, Mo.) on the serve, the visitors took the next five points. A block by senior
Maissie Musick (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.) and sophomore
Grace Bialobok (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Homewood, Ill.) pushed the margin to 16-10. North Park eventually pulled to within 22-21 on a Kajsa Meyer service ace, but junior
Emily Uglem (Moorhead HS, Moorhead, Minn.) answered with a kill and Augustana took three of the final four points. A Musick kill ended the set.
Game two was back-and-forth early, but a Musick ace gave Augustana a 6-5 lead that it wouldn't relinquish. A Harmon kill pushed the advantage to 17-10 and a North Park attack error gave the visitors their biggest lead at 24-16. Set point in a 25-19 Augustana win came on a service error by the hosts.
Westermeyer had back-to-back kills to open game three, as Augustana jumped in front 5-0. North Park would pull as close as two points before another 5-0 run, bookended by kills from Harmon and Musick, put the visitors on top 13-6. North Park would get no closer than four points the rest of the way and an attack error by the hosts gave Augustana a 25-17 win and the match.
