ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Despite playing without its top two singles players, Augustana defeated Illinois Wesleyan 9-0 Sunday afternoon at the Lower Campus Courts. The victory lifted Coach Jon Miedema's squad to 10-1 on the season and the Vikings completed the CCIW schedule with a perfect 8-0 mark. The Titans fell to 3-8 overall and finished conference play with a record of 2-6.

Junior Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.), Miedema's top singles player, saw her only action of the afternoon at first doubles, where she teamed with classmate Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) to post an 8-3 win over Lauren Neitzel and Megan Hippe. Sophomore Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) and freshmen Faith Johnson (Harker Heights HS, Harker Heights, Texas) won by the same score at number two, defeating Rebecca Rochacz and Sam Robinson. At third doubles, freshmen Maleeha Chowdhury (Rock Canyon HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Leraaen Abbott (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) whitewashed Kayleigh Ruffalo and Alyssa Cholewinski 8-0.

With Schaffer and freshman number two Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) sitting out of singles action, Miedema bumped everybody up two spots with excellent results. At number one, Badawi outlasted Neitzel 7-6 (6), 6-4 and Chowdhury scored a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hippe at second singles.

At number three, freshman Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Robinson and classmate Margaret Chadick (Plainfield North HS, Plainfield, Ill.) took care of Rochacz 6-1, 6-3 at number four. Johnson won 6-1, 6-0 over Ruffalo at fifth singles and at number six, Abbott beat Cholewinski love and love.
