Vikings move over .500 with four-set win over Coe

Senior setter Hannah Lindaman led Augustana with 20 assists, 10 digs and three service aces
Wednesday, as the Vikings defeated Coe in four sets at Carver Center.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana overcame a disappointing first set Wednesday, rebounding to win three straight against Coe at Carver Center to move over .500 on the season at 3-2. The visiting Kohawks dropped to 2-3 on the year.
 
Coe closed the first set on a 14-1 run, coming from 16-11 down to win 25-17.
 
The Vikings saw a lead dwindle in the second set as well, with the Kohawks drawing as close as 20-19. However, the hosts won the final five points to even the sets at one apiece. Augustana won the third set by the same 25-19 margin.
 
After falling behind in the fourth, Coach Kelly Bethke's squad staged a rally behind the serving of Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa). The senior setter closed out the match, including a pair of aces among the final five points.
 
Sophomore Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) led the Viking attack with a dozen kills. Senior Amy Kalkhoff (Clear Creek Amana HS, North Liberty, Iowa) added nine, junior Emily Westermeyer (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) seven and senior Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) six.
 
Lindaman had 20 assists and sophomore McKenzie Zambrano (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) 17. The setting duo had 10 and six digs, respectively, and Westermeyer chipped in with eight. Kalkhoff and junior Claire Martin (Mother McAuley HS, Orland Park, Ill.) also came through with half a dozen each.
 
Kibir-Evans led Augustana with four total blocks.
 
On Friday, September 9, Bethke's bunch will be in Dubuque, Iowa to take on St. Olaf at 3:00 p.m. and Loras at 5:00 p.m.
