ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana didn't exactly roll out the welcome mat for Carroll as the Pioneers competed in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin as a full-fledged member for the first time since the 1991-92 school year. The Vikings dropped Carroll 9-0 in women's tennis on a sweltering afternoon on Tuesday, September 6 at the Lower Campus Courts.

Clicking on all cylinders, Augustana gave head coach Jon Miedema his 99th career victory at the helm of the women's tennis fortunes. He is now 99-44 in his sixth year as the head coach.

A clean sweep in doubles set the table as the number one team of senior Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and junior Mollie Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) were the first to exit the court. Goggin and Magee made short work of Lauren Miketinac and Alison Lambrecht by a score of 8-1. The number two team of senior Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) beat Megan Krzewinski and Tiff Maggioncalda 8-3.

Completing the 3-0 run in doubles was the Viking number three team of sophomore Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) and freshman Zena Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.). Lombardi and Badawi struggled a bit early with the Carroll team of Shanna Mogden and Lauren Goebel before pulling away late in the match for an 8-4 win.

Augustana didn't slow down when the match swung over to singles play. Lauren Goggin beat Miketinac 6-1; 6-1 at number one and Dana Goggin took care of Krzewinski 6-0; 6-0 at number two. Schaffer beat Mogden 6-3; 6-7; 10-6 at number three singles in what ended up being the final match of the night. Schaffer and Mogden played the final few points in the gathering darkness.

Badawi beat Lambrecht 6-3; 6-0 at number four and Magee defeated Goebel 6-0; 6-2 at number five. Senior Vicki Andonova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) handled Maggioncalda 6-0; 6-0 at number six.

The Vikings are now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in CCIW play and will be in action again on Saturday, September 10 with conference matches against Millikin in Decatur, Illinois in the morning before facing Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Illinois in the afternoon.
