Vikings down Anderson and Earlham to move to 11-4

Junior Emily Westermeyer totaled 20 kills with an attack percentage of .386 Friday as Augustana
defeated Anderson and Earlham at the Illinois College Tournament.

JACKSONVILE, Ill. – Augustana lost just one set Friday in dispatching Anderson and Earlham at the Illinois College Tournament. Coach Kelly Bethke's Vikings improved to 11-4 on the season with a 3-1 win over the Ravens (4-9) and a straight set victory over the Quakers (3-13).
 
AUGUSTANA 3, ANDERSON 1 (25-22; 22-25; 25-12; 25-21)
 
Augustana and Anderson split the first two games of their match with each winning by a 25-22 margin. The Vikings bounced back to dominate the third 25-12 and closed things out with a 25-21 win.
 
Senior Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) led Augustana with 14 kills and junior Emily Westermeyer (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) added 13 with a match-best .355 attack percentage. Senior Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) and sophomore Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) each finished with nine kills.
 
Senior Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Ill.) distributed 30 assists and sophomore McKenzie Zambrano (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) 12. Seniors Amy Kalkhoff (Clear Creek Amana HS, North Liberty, Iowa) and Rachel Butter (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) each delivered a pair of service aces.
 
Defensively, junior Claire Martin (Mother McAuley HS, Orland Park, Ill.) had a match-high 28 digs, with VanEarwage (15) and Zambrano (13) reaching double digits as well. Kalkhoff and Kibir-Evans were each in on two blocks.
 
AUGUSTANA 3, EARLHAM 0 (25-13; 25-10; 25-13)
 
Bethke went deep into her bench in the Vikings' second match, with seven players logging at least four kills. Kibir-Evans again led the way with a match-best eight, followed by Westermeyer and VanEarwage with seven apiece, Kalkhoff with a half-dozen and Morrissey with five. Senior Amber Hopf (Manteno HS, Manteno, Ill.) and junior Maissie Musick (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.) added four kills each as Augustana posted a season-high .363 attack percentage.
 
Lindaman had 27 assists. Kalkhoff served up three more aces and VanEarwage two.
 
VanEarwage recorded a match-high 14 digs.
 
On Saturday, September 24, the Vikings will take on Rose-Hulman at 2:00 p.m. in Decatur, Illinois.
