Volleyball finishes Viking Classic with perfect 4-0 record after wins over Marian and Grinnell

09/17/16 – AUGUSTANA 3, MARIAN 0 (25-12; 25-12; 25-21)
 
Vikings swamp Marian 3-0 to move to 8-3 on the season
 
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana played a total of 15 people en route to a 3-0 (25-12; 25-12; 25-21) win over Marian in the morning session of the Viking Classic on Saturday, September 17 in the Carver Center.  The Vikings rolled to easy wins in sets one and two by identical scores of 25-12 before having to battle back from an 18-17 deficit in game three to secure the match. With the win Kelly Bethke's team moved to 8-3 on the season with its fourth straight win and fifth in the last six matches.
 
Sophomore Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) led the way with 13 kills on 23 attempts with just one error for a hitting percentage of .522. VanEarwage also had 16 digs and two assisted blocks. She was the lone Viking in double figures in kills although junior Maissie Musick (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.) was close with eight on just 13 attempts. She also had three assisted blocks. Augustana hit .315 as a team with 44 kills in 108 total attempts with 10 errors.
 
Senior Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) and sophomore McKenzie Zambrano (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) shared the setter's duties and each had 21 assists. Lindaman added eight digs and Zambrano had three.
 
Senior Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) had three solo blocks, four assisted blocks and six kills. Augustana dominated the Sabres at the net with a total of 17 blocks (three solos and 14 assisted).
 
Junior Claire Martin (Mother McAuley HS, Orland Park, Ill.) had 16 digs to share the lead in that category with VanEarwage.

Win over Grinnell pushes Augustana to 9-3 and a perfect 4-0 mark in the Viking Classic
 
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana completed a perfect 4-0 sweep at the Viking Classic with an impressive 3-0 (25-20; 25-9; 25-18) win over Grinnell on Saturday, September 17 in the Carver Center. The Vikings won for the fifth straight time and for the sixth time in their last seven outings to move to 9-3 on the season.
 
Once again Augustana head coach Kelly Bethke was able to use plenty of players. In the morning win over Marian a total of 15 Vikings saw action and in the victory against Grinnell Bethke went one better by getting 16 players into the match.
 
Sophomore Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) once again was the kills leader with 15 and was the only Viking in double figures. She had just two hitting errors in 28 attempts and added eight digs and one blocking assist. Seniors Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) and Amy Kalkhoff (Clear Creek Amana HS, North Liberty, Iowa) each had six kills to back up VanEarwage. Kibir-Evans had three assisted blocks while Kalkhoff had four digs, two assisted blocks and a service ace.
 
Freshman Grace Bialobok (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Homewood, Ill.) chipped in with five kills, a dig and a solo block.
 
Junior Claire Martin (Mother McAuley HS, Chicago, Ill.) led the team in digs with 24 while added four setting assists and two service aces.
 
Senior Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) dished out 19 setting assists with six digs while sophomore McKenzie Zambrano (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) had 12 assists, seven digs and one service ace.
 
The Vikings picked up 12 blocks in the match with junior Maissie Musick (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.) matching Kibir-Evans total of three to lead the team.
 
Augustana will open College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play on Wednesday, September 21 against Carthage in the Carver Center with first serve set for 7:00 p.m.
