Miedema gets 100th coaching victory with Augustana women as Vikings beat Illinois Wesleyan and Millikin by identical 9-0 scores

10 in Bloomington. Later in the day Miedema's charges beat Millikin 9-0 in Decatur.

Augustana head coach Jon Miedema picked up a milestone victory on Saturday, September 10 as his team won identical 9-0 decisions in two different cities. The Vikings started the day with a 9-0 win over Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Illinois and then headed down to Decatur, Illinois for an afternoon match with Millikin. That decision also went the Vikings' way by a score of 9-0.
 
The victory over Illinois Wesleyan was the 100th of Miedema's career with the Augustana women's team. He entered the season with a mark of 97-44 and after the two wins on Saturday he is now 101-44. The Vikings are currently 4-0 in dual meets and 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin.
 
Originally the match with Millikin in Decatur was supposed to be in the morning and the Vikings were going to play Illinois Wesleyan on the way home. The threat of rain and availability of indoor courts forced the two matches to be flip-flopped.
 
Augustana will tangle with Carthage in a crucial CCIW match on Wednesday, September 14 at home at 3:00 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Illinois – Augustana left little doubt in giving head coach Jon Miedema his 100th coaching victory with the women's team. The Vikings defeated Illinois Wesleyan 9-0 and they set the tone early with a 3-0 advantage after doubles.
 
The number one team of senior Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and junior Mollie Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kansas) picked up an 8-4 win over the Titans team of Lauren Neitzel and Dana Dray. Augustana's number two team of senior Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and freshman Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) took care of Brianna Dao and Gail Mar 8-2.
 
Sophomores Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) and Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.), who were 22-7 a year ago but hadn't played together yet this season, scored an 8-1 win over Allie Spontak and C. McGee-Morales at number three.
 
Lauren Goggin beat Neitzel at number one singles 6-4; 6-3 and twin sister Dana Goggin defeated Dana Dray 6-0; 6-1 at number two. Schaffer beat Dao 6-1; 6-2 at number three and Badawi handled Megan Hippe 6-4; 6-4 at number four. Magee was impressive in a 6-0; 6-1 win over Mar at number five and senior Vicki Andonova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) beat Sam Robinson at number six by a score of 6-2; 6-1.

DECATUR, Ill. – The Vikings put the finishing touches on a perfect week with a 9-0 win over Millikin in a match played at the Fairview Tennis Center in Decatur, Illinois.
 
Dana Goggin and Schaffer beat Molly Angell and Melissa Donovan 8-3 at number one doubles and Lauren Goggin and Magee defeated Kelly Ruane and Morgan Bettner 8-1 at number two. Augustana's number three team of Badawi and Lombardi beat Paige Bequette and Madeline Delano 8-1.
 
Leading 3-0 after doubles, the Vikings didn't slow down in singles.
 
Lauren Goggin took care of Bettner 6-0; 6-3 at number one and Dana Goggin handled Bequette 6-0; 6-1 at number two. Schaffer scored a 6-2; 6-4 win over Ruane at number three with Badawi beating Angell 6-4; 6-3 at number four.  Magee tossed a 6-0; 6-0 shutout at Donovan at number five with Andonova defeating Delano 6-1; 6-1 at number six.
