Vikings finish third in CCIW; ranked 19th in Central Region; crown two doubles flight conference champions; Totten & Pohl tie single-season win record, win CCIW first doubles title, ranked 13th in region
 
Coach Jon Miedema's Augustana men finished the 2015-16 season with a 15-11 dual meet record, third-place finishes in both the CCIW standings and conference tournament and a number 19 ranking in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region poll. The Vikings' number one doubles team of Samuel Totten (University HS, Normal, Ill.) and Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) tied a school record for wins in a season (20), won the CCIW championship at number one and finished with a regional ranking of 13 by the ITA. Totten was a first team All-CCIW selection, while Pohl was named to the second team. Seniors Austin Schoeck (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and Harald Olsson (Hersby Gymnasium, Stockholm, Sweden) won the CCIW championship at third doubles.
 
At the CCIW Tournament, held in Wheaton, Illinois from May 5-7, Augustana opened with a 5-0 win over North Central. The host Thunder handed the Vikings a 6-3 defeat in the semifinals, but Miedema's crew rebounded with a 5-4 win over Elmhurst in the third-place dual. Augustana swept the three doubles matches versus the Bluejays and senior Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) and freshman Jack Morkin (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) scored victories and third and fifth singles, respectively, to clinch the win.
 
The season opened on September 20 with the CCIW Fall Invitational in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Morkin rolled to the number four singles title, dropping just one game each in his three matches. In addition, he teamed with junior Nicholas Prabhakar (Rockford Lutheran HS, Belvidere, Ill.) to win the championship at second singles.
 
The fall portion of the schedule wrapped up with competition at the ITA tournament in St. Louis, Missouri on September 25-27.
 
The dual-meet season got under way on January 30 at the Quad-City Tennis Club, where Augustana defeated Wabash 5-4 and Monmouth 8-1. Totten's three-set win at number one singles clinched to victory over the Little Giants. Sixth-ranked Chicago defeated the Vikings 9-0 before Miedema's crew bounced back with wins over Cornell (9-0), Luther (6-3) and Edgewood (9-0).
 
Sporting a 5-1 dual-meet mark, Augustana headed to Florida for four matches from February 29-March 2. The Vikings suffered setbacks to NAIA Davenport (7-2), Rose-Hulman (7-2) and NCAA Division I Loyola (Md.) (6-1) before bouncing back to win its trip finale 8-1 over Capital.
 
After defeating Wisconsin-Oshkosh 9-0, the Augustana suffered a 9-0 setback at the hands of 16th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater and a pair of 5-4 losses to Lake Forest and Grinnell. The Vikings entered CCIW play with a 7-7 record.
 
The team dropped its CCIW opener on April 9 to eventual league champ Carthage by a score of 7-2. 9-0 wins over Millikin and North Central preceded a 6-3 loss at Wheaton before Augustana wrapped up regular season conference play with a 5-4 win over Elmhurst and an 8-1 victory over Illinois Wesleyan. The Vikings ended up 4-2 and in third place in the league standings. The team also had non-conference wins over Dubuque (7-0) and St. Ambrose (8-1) during the last month of the regular season, as well as a 7-2 loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
 
Totten was named Augustana's MVP this season. The Vikings' number one singles player finished the year 16-8 in singles and teamed with Pohl to go 20-9 at first doubles, tying Colin Arnold and Kevin Bayles' 2013-14 school record for wins in a season. Pohl went 16-17, mostly at second singles and his 23 total doubles wins tied for second-most in school history.
 
Lenz held down the third singles slot for most of the year. He went 14-15 and moved into a tie for seventh place on the school's career singles wins list with a 59-35 record. Freshman Carl Christensen (Hoellviken, Sweden) played mostly at number four and posted a 13-13 record.
 
Morkin led Augustana in singles wins this year, going 18-10, mostly at number five. He also compiled a 17-9 record in doubles play.
 
Schoeck, the team captain, won Augustana's Hardest Worker Award for the third consecutive year. He finished 9-8 mostly at sixth singles and was 16-12 in doubles action. He just missed becoming the 16th member of the Viking 100-win club, finishing with 97 total victories for his career.
