Sophomore Eric Pohl won at both number one singles and number one doubles to help
lead Augustana to a 5-4 win at Elmhurst on Sunday, April 24.
ELMHURST, Ill. – Augustana won two of three doubles matches and that proved to be the difference in a 5-4 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's tennis win at Elmhurst on Sunday, April 24 at the Brune Tennis Courts. The Vikings split the singles matches so the difference in the match was the 2-1 advantage in doubles.
Sophomore
Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) and senior
Austin Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) each accounted for two points in the match with wins at both singles and doubles.
Pohl teamed with fellow sophomore
Samuel Totten (Normal University HS, Normal, Ill.) at number one doubles to defeat Chris Harrison and Quinn Jennings 8-6. Pohl then moved into the number one singles spot and defeated Harrison 7-5; 3-6; 6-3.
Schoeck and senior
Harald Olsson (Hersby Gymnasium, Stockholm, Sweden) beat Kyle Endicot and Justin Delawder 8-3 at number three doubles. Schoeck also won at number six singles by a score of 6-3; 6-1 over Delawder.
The other victory for the Vikings came at number five singles where junior
Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) beat Ricardo Franco 6-3; 6-0.
Augustana dropped the number two doubles match when the Bluejay team of Franco and Alex Abbuhl beat Woolf and freshman
Jack Morkin (Normal University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) 9-8.
At number one singles Elmhurst's Jennings beat Viking senior
Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) 6-1; 6-2. Abbuhl took Augustana freshman
Carl Christensen (Hoellviken, Sweden) 7-5; 4-6; 6-4 at number three. Endicott beat Morkin 6-4; 6-2 at number four.
Augustana's next match will be April 27 at home against Illinois Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m. at the Lower Campus Courts.
