Men's tennis stops four-match losing streak with 9-0 win over Millikin

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Taking advantage of the nicest weather day of the spring so far, Augustana rolled to a 9-0 win over Millikin in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's tennis action on Wednesday, April 13 at the Lower Campus Courts. The win over a Big Blue team, which came into the contest with a glossy 13-2 record, snapped a four-match losing streak for head coach Jon Miedema's Vikings.
 
A sweep of the doubles gave Augustana a 3-0 lead to set the tone for the match. Sophomores Samuel Totten (Normal University HS, Normal, Ill.) and Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) defeated Emilo Tejada and Emerick Fulton 8-4 at number one. Sophomore Jack Morkin (Normal University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and junior Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) beat Connor Sacks and Jacob Hamilton by a score of 8-6 at number two. The number three match went to seniors Austin Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and Harald Olsson (Hersby Gymnasium, Stockholm, Sweden) 8-3 over Dane Pierantoni and Greg Schwoeppe.
 
Totten pushed his record to a team-leading 13-7 with a 6-1; 6-2 win over Tejada at number one and Pohl beat Hamilton 6-4; 6-4 at number two to move to 12-11.
 
Senior Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) beat Schwoeppe 6-1; 6-3 at number three and is now 9-11. Freshman Carl Christensen (Hoellviken, Sweden) defeated Noah Klumpe 7-5; 6-3 to forge to 10-8 on the campaign. Morkin bumped his mark to 12-8 with a 6-1; 6-2 win over Pierantoni at number five. Woolf beat J.C. Santamaria 6-2; 6-0 at number six to up his record to 2-2.
 
Augustana is now 8-8 on the year and 1-1 in the CCIW. The Vikings had lost four straight, two of those by narrow 5-4 margins, heading into the match with Millikin. Augustana will host Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday, April 15 at 3:00 p.m.
