Men's tennis drops tight match at Lake Forest

Senior Austin Schoeck picked up a three-set win at number
six singles during Augustana's 5-4 loss at Lake Forest on 
Saturday, March 19 in Lake Bluff, Illinois.

LAKE BLUFF, Ill. – Lake Forest used victories in four of the last five singles matches to defeat Augustana 5-4 in non-conference men's tennis action on Saturday, March 19 at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff in Lake Bluff, Illinois. The Vikings, who were ranked 20th in the Central Region, fall to 7-6 on the season while Lake Forest move to 6-5.
 
In a tightly contested match from start to finish, Lake Forest won four straight singles matches to erase a 3-1 deficit. After senior Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) defeated John Snider 6-3; 6-1 at number three singles, Augustana had a 3-1 lead.
 
The Foresters then ripped off four straight wins to seal the victory. At number two Trevor Allen beat sophomore Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) 6-1; 1-6; 6-4 and Dragan Trivanovic defeated freshman Jack Morkin (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) 7-5; 6-4 to knot the match at 3-3. A classic battle at number one ended with Lake Forest's Dan Pivonka beating sophomore Samuel Totten (University HS, Normal, Ill.) 7-6; 7-6 to give the home team a 4-3 lead. Number four was the clincher when Viking freshman Carl Christensen (Hoellviken, Sweden) fell 6-4; 3-6; 1-6 to Ellis Lora-Arceo. Senior Austin Schoeck (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) picked up a 3-6; 6-2; 6-1 win over Karl Fehn at number five to account for the final score.
 
Augustana grabbed a 2-1 lead following doubles as Totten and Pohl beat Pivonka and Snider 8-5 at number one and senior Harald Olsson (Hersby Gymnasium, Stockholm, Sweden) and junior Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) beat Fehn and Nick Rehm 8-3 at number three. The Vikings number two team of Christensen and Morkin lost 7-9 to Allen and Lora-Arceo.
 
Augustana's next match will be April 2 at home against Grinnell at 6;00 p.m. at the Quad City Tennis Club.
