Jon Miedema's Augustana men's tennis team improved its dual meet record to 3-1 on the season with a 9-0 whitewash of Cornell Saturday at the Small Multi-Sport Center Arena. Next Saturday, February 13, the Vikings will take on Luther and Edgewood in dual meets at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Illinois.
Augustana's number one doubles team of sophomores
Samuel Totten (University HS, Normal, Ill.) and
Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) rolled to an 8-1 win over the Rams' Gabriel Souza and Tucker Barnes. Seniors
Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) and
Austin Schoeck (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) polished off Alex Rand and Tom Greene 8-2 at third doubles and at number two, it was freshmen
Jack Morkin (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and
Carl Christensen (Hoellviken, Sweden) over Corey Duncan and Thomas Weiss by a score of 8-4.
Totten won three and three over Souza at first singles, improving to 6-3 on the season. Pohl (6-5) downed Weiss 6-2, 6-1 at number two and Lenz (4-5) was a 6-4, 6-2 victor over Barnes at number three.
At fourth singles, Christensen handled Duncan one and love to improve to 5-2 this season. At number five, Morkin—now 7-2—defeated Greene 6-2, 6-0 and
Nicholas Prabhakar (Belvidere, Ill., Rockford Lutheran) beat Rand 6-1, 6-1 at number six to boost his season singles mark to 4-1.
Next Saturday, the Vikings are scheduled to take on Luther at 12:30 p.m. and Edgewood at 6:00 p.m.
