ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Coach Mark Beinborn's Augustana basketball team continued its impressive season-opening run Saturday, handing previously-unbeaten Webster an 82-69 defeat at Grant Gymnasium. The Vikings improved to 4-0 for the first time since the 2011-12 season, while the host Gorloks suffered their first setback in four games this year.

Webster outscored Augustana 21-12 in the third quarter to erase an eight-point halftime deficit and take a 55-54 lead entering the final period. After the teams swapped three lead changes to start the quarter, a pair of Megan Brandt free throws with 6:14 to play extended the Gorlok advantage to 64-59.

That's when Corrie Reiley (Prophetstown HS, Prophetstown, Ill.) took over. The sophomore guard drilled a three-pointer at the six-minute mark to get the Vikings to within two and another 26 seconds later to give her team a 65-64 lead. Taylor Lucas scored to put Webster ahead one final time, but Reiley answered with another trey that put Augustana up 68-66 and started a 14-0 Viking run over the next three and a half minutes. Kelsey Miller's bucket with just under a minute to play finally snapped the streak, but Beinborn's club hit three of four from the foul line in the final minute to ice the win.

Senior Mikayla Fallon (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) scored 10 first-half points on 4-of-5 field goal and 2-of-2 three point shooting, helping the Vikings to a 42-34 lead at the break. They led 19-11 after the first quarter and each team tallied 23 in the second period. The Gorloks stayed in contact by forcing 16 Augustana turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

Webster whittled away at the deficit in the third quarter. A Brandt free throw midway through the period gave the hosts their first lead (47-46) since the 7:46 mark of the first quarter. After the Vikings retook the lead, Kelsey Miller's bucket with a minute left gave the Gorloks a 55-54 advantage after three.

Reiley scored 14 of her team-high 16 points in the second half, included 11 in the final six minutes. For the game, she hit six of seven field goal attempts and all four of her three point tries. Fallon finished with 14 points on 5-of-8 field goal and 2-of-4 three-point shooting. Senior Kaycee Kallenberger (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) and sophomores Sadie Roberts (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) and Izzy Anderson (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) each scored nine.

Kallenberger grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and Roberts and classmate Carly McCameron (Antioch HS, Antioch, Ill.) six each, as the Vikings controlled the glass by a 44-32 margin. They also had their best shooting game of the season, connecting on 30 of 63 (.476) field goal attempts and eight of 18 (.444) three point tries. Augustana overcame 31 turnovers, while the hosts committed 22.

On Tuesday, November 29, Augustana welcomes Coe to the Carver Center for a 7:00 p.m. contest. A win would give the Vikings the first 5-0 start to a season in program history.
