After sluggish first quarter Vikings bounce back to roll past Dubuque 100-80

100-80 win at Dubuque.

DUBUQUE, Iowa – A sluggish first quarter might have been some cause for concern but Augustana roared back over the next three stanzas to record an impressive 100-80 non-conference victory over the University of Dubuque on Tuesday, November 22 at the Stoltz Sports Center in Dubuque, Iowa. The Vikings overcame a nine point deficit in the first quarter to give head coach Mark Beinborn his second straight victory over his alma mater.
 
In the early going Dubuque led 26-17 before a basket by senior Mikayla Fallon (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) trimmed the margin to 26-19 at the end of the first quarter.
 
With 8:37 left in the second quarter the Spartans led by eight (30-22) but back-to-back field goals by sophomore Carly McCameron (Antioch HS, Antioch, Ill.) cut the lead to 30-26 and sparked 20-7 run that eventually saw Augustana take a 42-37 lead into the locker room at halftime.
 
The Vikings continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the hosts 27-19 in the third and 31-24 in the fourth.
 
Senior Kaycee Kallenberger (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) led Augustana with 15 points and she was dominant on the backboards with 16 total rebounds, nine of them on the offensive end. She also added three blocked shots and an assist. She converted on seven of 10 free throws.
 
Kallenberger wasn't the only player in double digits in scoring, however, as sophomore Izzy Anderson (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) had 14 points while junior Victoria Allen (Eureka HS, Wildwood, Mo.) scored 12. Anderson pulled in seven rebounds and had four assists with one steal while Allen had five rebounds, two assists and four steals.
 
McCameron had 10 points, five rebounds and a steal while sophomore Sadie Roberts (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) picked up 10 points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal.
 
Sophomore Corrie Reiley (Prophetstown HS, Prophetstown, Ill.) had nine points, three assists and a steal.
 
The Vikings enjoyed a 54-43 advantage in the rebounding department and forced 24 turnovers.
 
Emily Brinker led Dubuque in scoring with 19 points.
 
Augustana is 3-0 on the season and will be in action again on Saturday, November 26 against Webster in St. Louis, Missouri. That game will tip off at 5:00 p.m.
