The Vikings won twice in women's swimming & diving on Saturday,
October 29 to open the 2016-17 season. Augustana defeated
Knox (167-61) and Loras (156-70).
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Augustana opened the 2016-17 women's swimming and diving season with a pair of victories on Saturday, October 29 at the Carver Center Pool. The Vikings beat Loras 156-70 and Knox 167-61 to get the season started. The Vikings won four individual events and both relays with a mix of veterans and newcomers contributing.
The 200 medley relay team of freshman
Carissa Boerboom (Rosemount HS, Inver Heights, Minn.), sophomore
Mia Polinski (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.), freshman
Gabrielle Ainsworth (Rockton Hononegah HS, South Beloit, Ill.) and freshman
Morgan Brockhouse (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) started the meet with a winning performance of 1:57.94. Polinski won the 200 individual medley in 2:22.96 and was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.46. Brockhouse took first in the 50 freestyle in :26.28 while Ainsworth was second in the 100 butterfly (1:05.65) and 200 individual medley (2:25.54) with Boerboom placing third in the 100 butterfly (1:06.65).
Sophomore
Victoria Frank (Hinsdale South HS, Willowbrook, Ill.) led a one-two sweep in the 1000 freestyle with a winning time of 12:20.55 while freshman
Grace O'Shea (Sacred Heart Griffin HS, Springfield, Ill.) took second in 12:28.41. Frank also placed second in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.87.
Junior
Kristin Schoenecker (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.75 and was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:58.44. She also led off the winning 400 freestyle relay that closed out the meet with a winning time of 3:59.74. She was joined on that foursome by freshman
Sara Clark (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.), freshman
Patti Grod (Glenbrook North HS, Northbrook, Ill.) and junior
Nicole Olsen (Plainfield East HS, Romeoville, Ill.). Grod was also third in the 50 freestyle (:26.81) and Olsen took third in the 100 freestyle (1:00.95).
Sophomore
Rachel Heah (Lockport HS, Bayan Lepas, Malaysia) finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:10.10) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.33) while sophomore
Audrey Hogenkamp (Lakewood HS, Lakewood, Colo.) was second in the three meter diving (176.60) and third in the one meter diving (184.90).
Sophomore
Taylor Campbell (Tuscola HS, Tuscola, Ill.) placed third in the 200 freestyle (2:13.80) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:06.91). Freshman
Chelsea Brandt (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.16).
