ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana celebrated Senior Night Friday, downing CCIW foe North Park in straight sets at Carver Center. Coach Kelly Bethke's Vikings improved to 22-6 overall this season and 4-2 in the CCIW. North Park fell to 7-18 on the year and 1-5 in the league.

The second set was the only one of the three that was in doubt. The hosts fell behind 8-4, but rallied to tie it at nine-all and eventually take a 13-11 lead. That prompted North Park Coach Natalie Dietz to call a timeout and her team responded well, taking the next eight points to go up 19-13. The visitors still led 22-18 when sophomore libero Sierra Rood (Lena-Winslow HS, Lena, Ill.) delivered her first kill of the season, starting a stretch that saw Augustana win seven of eight points to finish the set a 25-23 winner. Sophomore Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) had three kills in the closing run.

Augustana broke open the first game by taking eight of nine points to go from an 8-6 deficit to a 14-9 lead.  North Park would narrow the gap to four points on two occasions, but the hosts took the final six points to win 25-15. One of the seniors honored Friday, setter Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) was on the serve for the final five points.

After the teams split the first two points of game three, a kill by senior Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) gave Augustana the lead for good. Another by senior Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) extended the margin to 16-5. Senior Rachel Butter's (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) kill gave Augustana a 23-11 advantage and match point in a 25-13 win came on a kill by junior Maissie Musick (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.).

VanEarwage and Kibir-Evans led the Augustana attack with 10 kills each. Both did their damage efficiently, as VanEarwage hit .625 for the match and Kibir-Evans .450. Senior Amy Kalkhoff (Clear Creek Amana HS, North Liberty, Iowa) added seven kills and junior Emily Westermeyer (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) six.

Lindaman's 26 assists were backed up by a dozen from sophomore McKenzie Zambrano (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.).

Defensively, Rood led the way with 15 digs, followed by VanEarwage (10), Kalkhoff (nine) and Westermeyer (eight). Kibir-Evans recorded a pair of solo blocks.
