Women's tennis loses for first time this season

point in an 8-1 loss to Wheaton on Saturday, October 15. Schaffer and Goggin won at
number one doubles.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana saw its undefeated women's tennis season come to an end on Saturday, October 15 by a score of 8-1 at the hands of Wheaton at the Lower Campus Courts. The Vikings, who were 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, were able to win just one of the nine matches against the Thunder.
 
Senior Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) defeated Emily Jones and Katie Park 8-6 at number one doubles.
 
Augustana fell behind 2-1 after doubles with Goggin and Schaffer able to notch the only win. Senior Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and freshman Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) lost 1-8 to Miranda Kay and Sara Magnuson at number two. Senior Vicki Andonova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) and sophomore Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) lost 5-8 to Emma Westwick and Kirstie White at number three.
 
When the action shifted to singles, Augustana's fortune did not change.
 
Lauren Goggin lost 4-6; 3-6 to Park at number one and Dana Goggin fell 3-6; 2-6 to Jones at number two. Schaffer lost 4-6; 2-6 to Kay at number three and Badawi dropped her match to White at number four 4-6; 2-6. Andonova lost 1-6; 0-6 to Magnuson at number five and Lombardi fell 1-6; 0-6 to Westwick at number six.
 
The Vikings will defend their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship on October 21-22 in Hanover Park, Illinois.
