Senior libero Kylie Siebert was named to the all-tournament team at Illinois
Wesleyan Saturdayafter helping lead the Vikings to victories over Franklin
and Knox.BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –Augustana won both of its matches on Saturday, September 19, at the Illinois Wesleyan Volleyball Tournament in Bloomington, Illinois. The Vikings came back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Franklin College in five sets (25-19; 22-25; 19-25; 30-28; 16-14) to open the day and then defeated Knox in a three game match (25-12; 25-13; 25-21) to finish out the day.
Augustana is now 6-4 on the season and has won three straight after losing a tough 3-2 match to St. Thomas in the first match of the Viking Classic on Friday, September 18 at home. The Vikings bounced back to take Dubuque in three sets to end Friday's action and then won two on Saturday in Bloomington.
Senior
Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) was named to the all-tournament team after piling up 55 digs in two matches.
Augustana 3, Franklin College 2, (25-19; 22-25; 19-25; 30-28; 16-14)In a back and forth five-game battle, Augustana defeated Franklin College 16-14 in the last game of the set at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament in Bloomington, Ill. That two point victory clinched the match for the Vikings, who were down 2-1 after three sets.
Each of the five games was close. Augustana took the first game with a score of 25-19, but ended up losing the next two 22-25 and 19-25. Yet, the Vikings rallied and came back to win the fourth 30-28. The team solidified the win in the fifth, edging out the Grizzlies 16-14.
Another big night on the offense side of the ball for junior
Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich) who pounded out 23 kills and led the Vikings with a .425 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Emily Westermeyer (Huntley HS, Huntley) added 12, while senior
Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) rounded things out with 10.
Junior
Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) dished out 31 assists and 19 digs, and senior
Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) contributed 26 assists and 8 digs.
Senior
Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) recorded 41 digs to help the Vikings seal the win. She also was named to the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament all-tournament team.
Franklin's Ashley Bazier ended the match with 49 assists and 14 digs. Kourtney Settle added 16 kills for the Grizzles.
Augustana 3, Knox 0, (25-15; 25-13; 25-21)Keeping the ball rolling, Augustana defeated Knox in its last match of the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament winning 3-0 and going 2-0 on the day.
Augustana head coach
Kelly Bethke utilized the depth of her bench against Knox. Appearances were made by 18 Vikings throughout the course of the three game match. Augustana was never really threatened in this one, winning 25-15; 25-13 and 25-21.
Freshman
Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) had a match high of six kills. Sophomore
Peyton Achs (Eastland HS, Erie, Ill.) followed closely behind with five.
Senior
Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) continued to perform well on the defensive side of the ball, picking up 14 digs. Senior
Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) also tacked on 10 digs and added12 assists.
The Vikings will head back to Bloomington on Tuesday, September, 22 for their first conference game of the year against rival Illinois Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
