Vikings beat Carthage for seventh time in last nine meetings to move to 7-0 on the season

Junior Lauren Goggin ran her record to 7-1 at number one
singles with a 6-3; 6-4 win over Max Mella of Cartahge on
Friday evening in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Goggin also won at 
number two doubles when she teamed with Mollie Magee
for an 8-5 victory. The Vikings are now 7-0 overall and 3-0
in the CCIW.

KENOSHA, Wis. – Augustana rolled to an 8-1 win over Carthage on Friday, September 18 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to move to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. The Vikings defeated the Lady Reds for the seventh time in the last nine meetings dating back to the 2010-11 season.
 
Heading into the match Augustana head coach Jon Miedema was hoping for a quick start in doubles and that is exactly what he got as the Vikings swept to take a 3-0 lead heading into the singles portion of play.
 
Junior Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and senior Aileen MacDonald (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) picked up an 8-4 win at number one by beating Max Mella and Angelica Emmanouill. Junior Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Mollie Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) beat Casey Frommer and Taylor Bolyard 8-5 at number two. The number three team of freshmen Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) and Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) tossed an 8-0 shutout at Eliza Barter and Kristen Kalinka.
 
Lauren Goggin beat Mella 6-3; 6-4 at number one and twin sister Dana Goggin defeated Frommer 6-2; 7-5 at number two. Magee went three sets with Barter at number three before winning 6-3; 2-6; 6-2.
 
MacDonald beat Bolyard 6-1; 6-4 at number four and Schaffer took care of Emmanouill 6-4; 6-1 at number five.
 
The lone loss for the Vikings came at number six where Lombardi fell to Peterson 6-7; 6-7.
 
Augustana will host Illinois Wesleyan in CCIW action on Wednesday, September 23 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lower Campus Courts.
