Freshman Caitlyn Schaffer made a successful collegiate debut on Saturday, August 29
for the Augustana women's tennis team. She won both her singles and doubles matches
as the Vikings defeated Edgewood 9-0 and Grinnell 8-1.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Despite playing without three-year regular, and captain, Aileen MacDonald (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) the Augustana women's tennis team flexed its muscle on Saturday, August 29 with a pair of non-conference victories over Edgewood (9-0) and Grinnell (8-1) at the Lower Campus Courts. MacDonald missed the opening meet due to a family obligation but the Vikings hardly missed a beat.

Junior twins Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.), sophomore Mollie Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) and freshman Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) each recorded a total of four victories on the day to help lead the Augustana charge. All four players won both singles and doubles matches. Freshman Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) won two matches in singles and one in doubles.

The Vikings will be in action again on Saturday, September 5 at the Warhawk Invitational in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

08/28/15 – AUGUSTANA 9, EDGEWOOD 0

It didn't take long for Augustana head coach Jon Miedema's women's tennis team to pick up right where it left off a year ago. The Vikings, who went 24-9 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III national tournament in 2014-15, opened the 2015-16 season with an impressive 9-0 win over Edgewood on Saturday, August 29 at the Lower Campus Courts.

Augustana began the match by sweeping the doubles competition although the contest at number three was close. Junior Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and freshman Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) picked up an 8-4 win at number one singles over Morgan Wilson and Anna Miles. At number two it was junior Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Mollie Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) winning 8-1 against Libby Pratz and Jaclyn Swift. The number three team of senior Lauren Kaczmarek (Glenbard South HS, Lombard, Ill.) and junior Amy Even (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) locked into quite a battle with Sabrina Fuller and Maddie George before finally prevailing 9-8.

After the sweep in doubles, the Vikings rolled in the singles matches.
