Men's tennis loses to Luther in final regular season match

in Augustana's 6-3 loss at Luther on Sunday, April 26.

DECORAH, Iowa – In the final regular season men's tennis match of the 2015 season, Augustana dropped a 6-3 decision to Luther on Sunday, April 26 in Decorah, Iowa. The defeat at the hands of the Norse, coached by former Viking head coach Adam Strand, leaves Augustana with a 12-12 overall record heading into the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin tournament.
 
Luther, ranked 19th in the Central Region of NCAA Division III, is now 14-11 after the victory. The Norse grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles and never looked back.
 
Augustana won at number one doubles when freshmen Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) and Samuel Totten (Normal University HS, Normal, Ill.) defeated Sam Cychosz and Anders Jensen 8-4 . Pohl and Totten are now 14-9 this year while playing exclusively at number one.
 
Junior Austin Schoeck (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) and sophomore Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) fell to Kyle Appel and Trent Schneider at number two by a score of 8-4. Augustana's number three team of juniors Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) and Harald Olsson (Hersby Gymnasium, Stockholm, Sweden) lost 8-4 to Sam Buffington and Quinn Foley.
 
Pohl picked up a 6-2; 6-4 win over Schneider at number two singles and Lenz defeated Cychosz at number three by a score of 7-6; 6-3.
 
Totten fell to Appel at number one singles 2-6; 2-6 and Woolf lost to Jensen 1-6; 3-6 at number four. Schoeck went three sets with Buffington at number five before losing 6-4; 1-6; 8-10 and Olsson lost 1-6; 1-6 to Foley at number six.
 
Augustana, which was third in the CCIW, will open tournament play on Thursday, April 30 against number six seed North Central (6-12 overall & 1-5 in the CCIW) at 2:00 p.m. in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
