Junior Harald Olsson picked up wins at number two doubles (with Austin Schoeck as a
partner) and at number six singles. Those two wins helped Augustana secure a 5-4
victory over Elmhurst in CCIW men's tennis action on Thursday, April 16.ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A 3-0 sweep in doubles was the key element in Augustana's 5-4 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's tennis action on Thursday, April 16 at the Lower Campus Courts. The Vikings used the 3-0 edge heading into singles as they won for the second straight outing and moved their overall record to 10-9 and their league mark to 2-1.
The doubles matches were decisive as Augustana dominated all three. Freshmen
Samuel Totten (Normal University HS, Normal, Ill.) and
Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) beat Chris Harrison and Luke Tanaka 8-1 at number one to move to 12-9 for the season. The number two team of juniors
Austin Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and
Harald Olsson (Hersby Gymnasium, Stockholm, Sweden) defeated Ricardo Franco and Matt Kulma 8-2. Schoeck and Olsson are now 15-8.
Junior
Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) and sophomore
Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) beat Quinn Jennings and Allen Riquelme 8-2 at number three. Woolf and Lenz are now 4-1 this year.
The Bluejays took four of the six singles matches to close the gap.
Woolf defeated Kulma 6-2; 2-6; 6-3 at number four and Olsson beat Riquelme 6-2; 6-3 at number six to account for the Augustana singles' wins.
Harrison beat Totten 6-4, retired at number one and Tanaka won 6-4; 0-6; 6-3 over Pohl at number two. Jennings defeated Lenz 6-1; 6-1 at number three and Franco took Schoeck 6-3; 7-6 at number five.
Augustana will travel Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, April 18 for a 1:30 p.m. match with Carthage and on Sunday, April 19 the Vikings will head down to Naperville, Illinois for an 11:00 a.m. match with North Central.
