Men's tennis moves to .500 with 7-2 win at Illinois Wesleyan

Patrick Lenz picked up a victory at number three singles
and teamed with Connor Woolf to win at number three
doubles as Augustana beat Illinois Wesleyan 7-2 in 
College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's tennis
action on Tuesday, April 14 in Bloomington, Illinois.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Augustana snapped a two-match losing streak with a 7-2 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday, April 14 at Beadles-Morse Courts in Bloomington, Illinois. The Vikings evened their overall record at 9-9 on the year and their CCIW mark at 1-1.
 
A quick start in doubles helped pave the way in this victory as Augustana swept all three to take an early 3-0 lead.
 
Freshmen Samuel Totten (Normal University HS, Normal, Ill.) and Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) won a tight 8-6 decision over George Alex and Martijn van Dooren at number one. Juniors Austin Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and Harald Olsson (Hersby Gymnasium, Stockholm, Sweden) beat Kurt Meyer and Calen Crim 8-4 at number two.
 
Junior Patrick Lenz (Villanova Prep, Ojai, Calif.) and sophomore Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) picked up an 8-1 win at number three over Kevin Piotrowski and Kyle Hyland.
 
Lenz beat Crim 7-6; 6-0 at number three singles and Schoeck took care of Meyer 6-4 6-3 at number four. Olsson defeated Piotrowski 6-4; 6-4 at number five and sophomore Jonathon Elsey (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) beat Hyland 6-2; 6-3 at number six.
 
The Vikings dropped decisions at numbers one and two singles. At number one it was the Titans' Alex over Totten 7-5; 6-3 and van Dooren beat Pohl 6-2; 6-1.
 
Augustana will host Elmhurst at 4:00 p.m. at the Lower Campus Courts on Thursday, April 16.
