ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Three pins in the final four weight classes to fuel Augustana's 32-11 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin victory over Elmhurst on Thursday, February 5 in the Carver Center. The Vikings knocked off the Bluejays for the first time since the 2003-04 season, snapping a string of 10 straight losses to Elmhurst.
 
Augustana led 14-7 heading into the 174 pound weight class when senior Jordan Richardson (Grandville HS, Wyoming, Mich.) survived a scramble and ended up pinning Mitch Morris at 4:33. That gave the Vikings a 20-7 advantage and senior Thomas Reyhons (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) made it 26-11 when he decked Bobbin Schillinger at 5:29 of the 184 pound match. After sophomore Chris Giatras (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) lost to Colton Kelly 16-5 at 197, Augustana received a pin from senior John Seaman (Munster HS, Munster, Ind.) at 285 pounds at 6:28 against Zack Urbanski to close out the match.
 
The Vikings won the first two weight classes by major decisions to jump out to an early 8-0 lead. Junior Jimmy Panozzo (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) defeated Anthony Munoz 12-1 at 125 and freshman Brendan Gould (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) beat Carter Beebe 8-0 at 133 pounds.
 
Freshman Colin Tomkins (Grandville HS, Grandville, Mich.) lost a tight 3-2 match to Matt Quigley at 141 and sophomore Matt Sears (Marist HS, New Lenox, Ill.) lost 15-3 to Blake Santi at 149. With the score 8-7 in favor of Augustana the Vikings got a crucial 7-4 win from senior Hector Ruiz (East Aurora HS, Aurora, Ill.) at 157. That made it 11-7 and senior Connor Cummings (Downers Grove North HS, Woodridge, Ill.) nipped Sergio Lopez 4-2 in overtime at 165 to push the lead to 14-7.
 
That started a the barrage of pins by the home team that sealed the win. Augustana is now 7-5 on the season and have won four straight dual meets. The Vikings will travel to the University of Chicago on Saturday, February 7 for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Maroons.
