Mark Beinborn's club snapped a three-game skid and improved to 4-3 on the season. The host Scots fell to 1-7.
Augustana never trailed in the contest and Reiley's three-pointer three minutes in gave the Vikings a 7-4 lead that they would never surrender. Monmouth wouldn't get closer than three points the rest of the way. Fallon's steal and layup just before the first quarter buzzer gave her 11 points in the period and put Augustana on top 22-15.
Another Reiley trey with 7:21 to play in the second quarter extended the lead to 31-18, the largest of the first half. Junior
Jen VanWatermeulen (United Township HS, Silvis, Ill.) scored the Vikings' last five points—giving her seven in the period—and Augustana took a 38-27 edge into the locker room. Reiley also had seven in the quarter.
Pezzopane scored six of her team's first eight points of the second half as Augustana continued to extend the margin. A free throw by freshman
Izzy Anderson (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) gave the Vikings a 56-35 advantage after three periods, matching the biggest lead of the night to that point.
Beinborn went deep on his bench in the final period with no drop-off. Five freshmen scored all 13 of Augustana's points in the quarter, while limiting the Scots to 11 to account for the final.
In addition to the three Vikings in double figures, junior
Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) added eight on four-of-five shooting from the floor. She shared game-high assist honors with VanWatermeulen. Each dished out four. Fallon had a game-high four steals. Despite going scoreless, junior
Kaycee Kallenberger (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) had game highs of seven rebounds and four blocked shots, as well as three steals.
Augustana had its best shooting night of the season, hitting .453 from the floor on 29 of 64. The Vikings were six of 19 (.316) from beyond the arc and five of seven (.714) at the foul line. They held Monmouth to .341 (14 of 41) field goal shooting, although the Scots did hit six of 12 from deep. Augustana won the battle of the boards 35-30 and committed just 14 turnovers, while forcing 24.
Beinborn's squad will be back at Carver Center on Saturday, December 12, hosting Central. The Vikings and Dutch are scheduled to tip at 2:00 p.m.
