INDIANOLA, Iowa – 30th-ranked Augustana split a pair of duals Thursday night at Cowles Fieldhouse on the campus of Simpson College. The Vikings suffered a 23-15 setback at the hands of 25th-ranked Central in its first meet, before bouncing back with a 31-19 win over the hosts. Coach Eric Juergens' squad is 2-2 in dual meet action this season and will be back at Carver Center on December 9, hosting Loras at 7:30 p.m.
 
CENTRAL 23, AUGUSTANA 15
 
Sean McMahon's (Andrew HS, Tinley Park, Ill.) pin of Jahleel Vester at 141 pounds was the highlight for Augustana in its first dual of the evening.
 
Coming on the heels of a 9-5 sudden victory win by sophomore 133-pounder Brendan Gould (Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) over Aaron Anderson, McMahon's fall gave the Vikings a 9-3 lead. However, consecutive Dutch wins at 149 and 157 tied things at nine-all and another at 165 put Central on top 12-9.
 
Senior Alex Bowers (Noblesville HS, Noblesville, Ind.) was awarded a forfeit at 174 to regain a 15-12 advantage for Augustana, but the Dutch sealed the victory with wins at the three upper weight classes.

Domination at the lowest and highest weight classes overcame four straight losses in the middle as the Vikings took down the Storm in the nightcap. Augustana recorded four falls, with 125-pound senior Jimmy Panozzo (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) and Gould sticking Jacob Irwin and Deven Acevedo, respectively, to stake Juergens' bunch to a 12-0 lead.
 
Four consecutive Simpson wins, including two pins and a major decision, put the hosts on top 19-12 heading to the 174-pound bout. Bowers drew the Vikings to within 19-16 with a 16-6 major decision over Spencer Ward and 184-pound senior Thomas Reyhons (Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) followed with a pin of Brett Roberts for a 22-19 Augustana lead.
 
Sophomore 197-pounder Chris Giatras (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) and 285-pound senior Jack Seaman (Munster HS, Munster, Ind.) made sure that advantage held up. Giatras earned a hard-fought 8-7 decision over DeVaughn Scott to extend the Viking lead to 25-19. Seaman closed things out with a flourish, pinning Colby Vlieger in 3:20 to account for the final.
