ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Bonus points in the final two matches of the night spelled trouble for the 30^th ranked Augustana wrestling team as the Vikings dropped a 21-17 non-conference decision to Dubuque on Tuesday, November 24 in the Carver Center. It was the first loss of the season for head coach Eric Juergens, who opened the dual meet campaign with a win at North Central on November 18.
 
Augustana led 17-12 after senior Jimmy Panozzo (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) defeated Julio Chavez 7-2 at 125 pounds. The match, which started at the 149 pound weight class, came down to the final two weights and Dubuque recorded bonus points in each to pick up the win. The Spartans tied things at 17-17 when Steve Rosenburg defeated junior C.J. Sojka (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) by technical fall at 5:20 of the 133 pound weight class. Dubuque clinched the win with a 14-2 major decision by Donovan Luckett over freshman Dale Charlier (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) at 141 pounds.
 
The Vikings trailed 3-0 when senior David Tessiatore (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) tied things at 3-3 by defeating Frank Frasetto 9-4 at 157. After a loss at 165 senior Alex Bowers (Noblesville HS, Noblesville, Ind.) once again tied the match, this time at 6-6, with a tough 8-4 double overtime win against Elton Turnage-Manuel at 174.
 
After Dubuque recorded a pin at 184, Augustana won at both 197 and 285 to go in front 14-12. Sophomore Chris Giatras (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) routed Cosmo Halwix 13-2 at 197 and senior John Seaman (Munster HS, Munster, Ind.) beat Nolan Smith 9-0 at 285.
 
The Vikings will be in action again on December 3 when they travel to Indianola, Iowa to face Simpson (6:30 p.m.) and Central of Iowa (8:00 p.m.) in a double dual.
