After big win at Monmouth, Vikings move to 3-0 in men's swimming

Freshman Jared Ekberg won the 200 individual medley (2:01.65) and the 500 freestyle
(5:04.48) and also led off the winning 200 freestyle relay as Augustana beat Monmouth
144.5-39.5 on Friday, November 20.

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Freshman Jared Ekberg (Rockford Christian HS, Rockford, Ill.) won a pair of individual events and led off a winning relay team to help lead Augustana to a lopsided 144.5-39.5 win at Monmouth on Friday, November 20. The Vikings won 10 of the 11 events en route to pushing their record to 3-0 on the season.
 
Ekberg won the 200 individual medley (2:01.65) and the 500 freestyle (5:04.48) and handled the lead-off leg on the 200 freestyle relay which won with a time of 1:29.38. Ekberg's teammates on that relay were junior Ian Disteldorf (Brother Rice HS, Oak Forest, Ill.), sophomore Miguel Rodriguez (Rockford Boylan Catholic HS, Rockford, Ill.) and sophomore Jacob Speechley (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.).
 
Rodriguez won the 100 freestyle in :49.94. Speechley took the 100 backstroke in :56.09 and he also led off the 200 medley relay which won in 1:42.05. He was joined by Disteldorf, sophomore Chris Wilson (Bradford on Tone, United Kingdom) and freshman Luke Herron (Vail Christian HS, Edwards, Colo.). Wilson won the 100 butterfly (:56.70) and Herron won the 50 freestyle (:23.24) and was third in the 100 freestyle (:52.05). Disteldorf added a third in the 200 individual medley (2:07.86).
 
Freshman Bryan Haage (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) won the 200 freestyle in 1:47.26 and placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.88. Sophomore Victor Wagstrom (Stockholm, Sweden) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.09 and placed third in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.98.
 
Senior Felipe Hernandez (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) was second in both the 200 freestyle (1:54.92) and the 100 backstroke (:56.90). Senior Adam Bernardi (Rockford Boylan Catholic HS, Belvidere, Ill.) was second in the 200 individual medley (2:07.53) and third in the 100 backstroke (:59.02). Freshman Brendan Walker (Tinley Park HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) placed second in the 100 butterfly (:58.51) as did freshman Kyle Workman (Morrison HS, Morrison, Ill.) in the 500 freestyle (5:32.96).
Junior Bryce Dibadj (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) took third in the 1000 freestyle in 11:31.53. Sophomore Brandon Marcy (Riverton HS, Riverton, Ill.) placed third in the 50 freestyle (:24.37) and freshman Anthony Santangelo (St. Andrews Episcopal HS, Brandon, Mass.) was third in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.08.
