Women's swimming starts 2015-16 season with wins over Knox and Loras

Augustana opened the 2015-16 season with wins over Knox and
Loras on Saturday, October 31 at the Carver Center Pool.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Sophomore Kristin Schoenecker (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) was an individual double winner as Augustana defeated Loras (126-92) and Knox (147-53) in a double dual on Saturday, October 31 in the Carver Center Pool. The Vikings won both relays and took five of the nine individual events to get the 2015-16 season started on a high note.
 
Schoenecker won the 200 freestyle in 2:05.91 early in the meet and then came back to take the 500 freestyle in the later stages with a time of 5:43.18. She was the lone double winner individually for head coach Dan Lloyd's Vikings.
 
The 200 medley relay got things started with a victory in a time of 1:57.88 in the first event of the afternoon. Junior Allison Patch (Moline HS, Coal Valley, Ill.) handled the lead-off leg and was followed by senior Jordan Johnson (Appleton North HS, Appleton, Wis.), freshman Mia Polinski (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) and sophomore Nicole Olsen (Plainfield East HS, Romeoville, Ill.).
 
Olsen won the 50 freestyle in :26.61 and Polinski took the 200 individual medley in 2:18.80. Patch was second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.31) and Johnson finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.28).
 
Sophomore Sara Hovren (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.85 and she also handled the second leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay which closed out the meet with a victory in 3:54.32. Hovren was joined on that relay by freshman Rachel Heah (Lockport HS, Bayan Lepas, Malaysia), senior Emma Novak (Eden Prairie HS, Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Polinski. Novak added a second in the 200 individual medley (2:22.94) and a third in the 100 butterfly (1:05.47).
 
Freshman Kelly Wingerson (Rock Island HS, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) placed second in the 1000 freestyle (11:59.01) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:49.40). Freshman Kaylee Blazer (Moline, Ill.) took second in the one meter diving with 104.45 points. Freshman Victoria Frank (Hinsdale South HS, Willowbrook, Ill.) placed third in the 1000 freestyle in 12:32.51. Junior Brittney Crawford (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) was third in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.03 and freshman Kim Firganek (Lockport, Ill.) finished third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.88.
 
Augustana will not be in action again until a dual meet at Monmouth on Friday, November 20 at 1:00 p.m.
