Senior Sydney Sand led Augustana with nine kills Tuesday, but the Vikings fell in
three sets to Millikin.ROCK ISLAND, Ill. –Augustana lost to Millikin University by a score of 3-0 in its third conference matchup of the season on Tuesday, October 6 at the Carver Center. The Vikings only lost by three points each time, 25-22 for all three of the games. Augustana now has a record of 8-8 overall, including 3-2 at home and a 1-2 standing in CCIW play.
Although losing 3-0, the Vikings made Millikin work for each victory. Head coach
Kelly Bethke's squad looked as if they were going to rally in the third game, at times matching Millikin point for point. But, in the end, they couldn't pull out the victory.
Sydney Sand (Burlington Central HS, Elgin, Ill.) contributed nine kills, while junior
Amy Kalkhoff (Clear Creek Amana HS, North Liberty, Ill.) followed closely behind with seven kills and nine digs.
Senior libero
Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) picked up 23 digs for the Vikings.
Junior
Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) was credited with 16 assists and 14 digs. Senior
Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) had 12 assists.
The Big Blue was led on offense by Erin Syversen with 23 kills on the night. Emily Mihalkanin added 39 assists.
Augustana will be in action this coming Friday, October 9 at home at the Carver Center against CCIW opponent the number 16 nationally ranked Elmhurst Blue Jays. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
