Sweep of Pumpkin Bash sends seniors out on successful note

It was smiles all around for the Augustana volleyball team on Saturday, October 31 as 
the Vikings cut through the Pumpkin Bash with a perfect 4-0 record. Augustana won 
nine of its last 11 matches to finish the year with a 17-14 mark. 

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana put the finishing touches on a 17-14 season with a perfect run through the Pumpkin Bash, including a pair of victories on Saturday, October 31 in the Carver Center. The Vikings defeated Westminster 3-1 (25-21; 24-26; 25-16; 25-18) in the first match on Saturday and then came back with a 3-0 win over Concordia-Chicago (25-17; 25-15; 25-20) in the finale.
 
The victory over Concordia was the final match for the careers of four Augustana seniors. Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.), Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.), Jordan Hampel (Hilliard-Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) and Sydney Sand (Burlington Central HS, Elgin, Ill.) were all fixtures in the Vikings' lineup this season. They helped compile a 77-49 career record and finished their careers with four straight winning seasons.
 
Augustana defeated North Park 3-1 (25-18; 25-22; 22-25; 25-17) and Central of Iowa 3-1 (25-17; 16-25; 25-17; 25-17) on Friday, October 30. The Vikings won their last four matches of the 2015 season and finished with nine wins in their last 11 outings.
 
AUGUSTANA 3, WESTMINSTER 1 (25-21; 24-26; 25-16; 25-18)
 
With senior Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) powering her way to a team high 12 kills, the Vikings defeated a Westminster team that sported a glossy 20-7 record heading into the Pumpkin Bash. Murray also had 12 digs and two assisted blocks and was the lone Viking in double digits in kills. Junior Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) had eight kills and a total of 12 blocks (two solo and 10 assists) to help shoulder the scoring load. Junior Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) had six kills and seven assisted blocks.
 
Junior Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) picked up 23 setting assists with 11 digs and a service aces. Senior Jordan Hampel (Hilliard-Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) had 12 setting assists and eight digs. Senior Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) had a game-high 22 digs with four setting assists and three service aces.
 
AUGUSTANA 3, CONCORDIA-CHICAGO 0 (25-17; 25-15; 25-20)
 
Once again it was Murray who led the way as she recorded 11 kills with eight digs, two service aces and an assisted block. She finished her career with 1,042 kills and moved past former teammate Emily Leazer (1,039 kills from 2011-14) into ninth place on the school's all-time list.
 
Sand picked up eight kills in the final match of her career and sophomore Peyton Achs (Eastland HS, Erie, Ill.) added seven with two solo blocks. Freshman Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) contributed seven kills with two solo blocks.
 
Hampel had 23 assists with three digs and a service aces while Lindaman had 15 assists, five digs and two service aces. Siebert, the school record holder for career digs, finished her final match in an Augustana uniform with 15 digs, one service ace and a setting assist.
