Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) eclipsed the 1000 kill mark for her career during Augustana's 3-1 (25-20; 25-27; 22-25; 16-25) loss Edgewood on Saturday, October 24 in Madison, Wisconsin. The Vikings fell to 13-14 with the loss while Edgewood moved to 21-8 overall.
Murray recorded eight kills in a total of 44 attempts during the afternoon's match and she now has 1,003 for her career. She becomes just 10
th player in Viking history to eclipse the 1,000 kill mark and she is only 36 kills shy of tying former teammate
Emily Leazer for ninth place. Leaser had 1,039 kills during a career which spanned from 2011 through 2014.
Murray started the weekend with 986 kills and she had two in a 3-0 loss at Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday, October 23 and seven in a 3-0 win against Webster later in the day. In the match against Edgewood she also added nine digs and two service aces.
Senior
Sydney Sand (Burlington Central HS, Elgin, Ill.) led Augustana in kills with 10 and she also contributed three service aces, four digs and four blocking assists. Freshman
Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) added eight kills with 10 digs. Juniors
Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) and
Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) each had seven kills. Morrissey had three digs and two assisted blocks while Kibir-Evans had five assisted blocks with one dig.
Junior
Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Ill.) led the team in assists with 22 with eight digs and a service ace while senior
Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) had 17 assists with nine digs.
Senior
Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) led the team in digs with 22.
Emily Chaussee was the Edgewood leader in kills with 18.
Augustana will be in action next at the Pumpkin Bash in the Carver Center on Friday, October 30 with a match against College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin foe North Park at 3:00 p.m.
