Augustana Goes 1-1 in the Panici Classic

Junior Nicole Morrissey totaled 17 kills as Augustana split a piar of matches Friday in
Whitewater, Wisconsin.

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Augustana traveled to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Dig Panici Classic on Friday, October 23, winning 3-0 against Webster and falling 3-0 to UW-Whitewater, going 1-1 on the night.
 
Augustana lost its first match to UW-Whitewater by a score of 3-0 (25-15; 25-25; 29-27) and then bounced back a couple hours later and defeated Webster 3-0 (25-17; 25-20; 25-17). The Vikings are now 13-13 on the season.

The Vikings fell to nationally ranked #9 UW-Whitewater in their first game of the Dig Panici Classic. Both games one and two yielded the same scores of 15-25. Yet, game three proved to light fire under head coach Kelly Bethke's squad but not enough to steal a victory away from the Warhawks. UW-Whitewater took game three in a close 29-27 win.
 
Despite the loss, Junior Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) contributed eight kills and three blocks. Following closely behind, junior Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) added seven kills.
 
Defensively, senior libero Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) totaled 11 digs, while Sophomore Claire Martin (Mother McAuley HS, Orland Park, Ill) had 10.
 
Junior Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) led the team in setting assists with 15 and six digs. Senior Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) tallied 12 assists.
 
Augustana 3, Webster 0 (25-17; 25-20; 25-17)
 
After losing a tough battle against nationally ranked UW-Whitewater, the Vikings came back to beat Webster in a quick 3-0 series to end their night. Augustana went 1-1 in the Dig Panici Classic and ended on a high note.
 
This time Morrissey led the team in kills with 10 and senior outside hitter Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) finished the match with seven kills and nine digs.
 
Siebert delivered another impressive performance digging 14 balls for the Vikings.
 
Lindaman was credited with 20 assists and eight digs. Hampel had 14 assists.
 
The team looks to continue tallying victories on its Wisconsin road trip. Augustana will take on Edgewood in Madison, WI on Saturday, October 24 at 2:30 p.m.
