Junior Lauren Goggin (L) and sophomore Mollie Magee (R) won both of their matches at number
two doubles, as well as both of their respective singles matches Saturday, as Augustana remained
unbeaten in dual meet play with 9-0 wins over Elmhurst and North Central.

Augustana head women's tennis coach Jon Miedema got exactly what he wanted out of a pair of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin matches on Saturday, October 10 during a trip to the Western suburbs of Chicago. The Vikings stayed undefeated on the season at 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the league with identical 9-0 victories over Elmhurst and North Central.

That sets up a showdown next Saturday, October 17 with defending conference champion Wheaton on the Thunder's home court at 12:00 noon. Wheaton is currently 8-1 overall and has matched Augustana's 6-0 league mark. The winner will receive the top seed in the CCIW's automatic qualifier tournament for the league's NCAA Division III Tournament berth. That will be held in the spring.

The CCIW champion will be determined in a flighted tournament which will be held on October 22-24 in Hanover Park, Illinois. A year ago Wheaton and Carthage actually tied for the conference title as each scored 55 points in the flighted tournament while Miedema's team was close behind in third with 52 points.

During the regular season in the fall of 2014 Wheaton defeated Augustana 8-1 in Rock Island in September. However, in the CCIW AQ Tournament in the spring the Vikings turned the table and squeezed out a pulsating 5-4 win over the Thunder to earn their first ever NCAA berth.

Augustana has been fairly dominant this fall, winning 10 of its 12 matches by scores of 9-0. The other two victories came by margins of 8-1 over Grinnell and Carthage.

AUGUSTANA 9, ELMHURST 0

ELMHURST, Ill. - In the first match of an interesting double header that saw the Vikings play two matches in two different cities, Augustana handled Elmhurst 9-0 to move to 11-0 overall and 5-0 in the CCIW.

The doubles teams set the tone as the Vikings led 3-0 heading into the singles portion of the match. First off the court was the number two doubles team of junior Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Mollie Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) with an 8-1 win over Chiara Gaudio and Hannah Vaselaney. The freshmen at number three: Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) and Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) beat Camile Knapik-Balch and Katelyn LoRusso at number three by a score of 8-2. The number one team of junior Dana Goggin (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and senior Aileen MacDonald (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) defeated Ava Kolman and Rachel Rettger 8-4.

In singles it was junior Vicki Andonova (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) who was the first finisher as she defeated Knapik-Balch 6-0; 6-1. Schafer took care of Tori Liewergen 6-2; 6-2 at number five to seal the win for Augustana.

Dana Goggin finished next with a 6-0; 6-0 win over Gaudio at number two and MacDonald followed with an identical 6-0; 6-0 victory over Vaselaney at number four. Magee defeated Rettger 6-2; 6-3 at number three and Lauren Goggin beat Kolman 6-4; 6-2 at number one to complete the 9-0 sweep.

AUGUSTANA 9, NORTH CENTRAL 0

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - After beating the Bluejays, Miedema hustled his team into the van and moved over to Naperville, Illinois to take on North Central. The Vikings once again responded with a 9-0 victory to up their record to 12-0 and 6-0 in the conference.

The doubles portion once again provided Augustana with a 3-0 advantage but there were some anxious moments at number one where Dana Goggin and MacDonald had to fight for a 9-7 win over Clare O'Connor and Kelsey Forkin. Lauren Goggin and Magee cruised to an 8-0 win over Katie Drone and Miranda Grizaffi at number two while Schaffer and Lombardi beat Marisa Coladipietro and Karissa Schroeder 8-3 at number three.

Lauren Goggin beat Drone 6-1; 6-1 at number one and Dana Goggin handled Grizaffi 6-2; 6-1 at number two. Magee defeated Forkin 6-2; 6-3 at number three and MacDonald won 6-2; 6-0 over O'Connor at number four.

Schaffer beat Coladipietro 6-1; 6-0 at number five and Andonova, who has just recently been inserted into the singles lineup after an early season injury, beat Schroeder 6-2; 6-3.
