Sophomore Emily Westermeyer led Augustana with nine kills
Thursday, as the Vikings downed Monmouth in straight sets at
Carver Center.ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Getting off to an aggressive start on the night, Augustana defeated Monmouth 3-0 (25-13; 25-14; 25-13) in the Carver Center on Thursday, October 1. This is the Vikings third home win of the season and advances their overall record to 8-7.
From the beginning, the match belonged to Augustana. The Vikings outscored the Scotts by 12 points in the first game, winning 25-13. The second game was no different, with Augustana gaining a 25-14 victory. In the third, all members of head coach
Kelly Bethke's squad received floor time, contributing to a 25-13 win.
The offense was spread evenly as sophomore
Emily Westermeyer (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) led the way with nine kills and picked up 4 digs. Senior
Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) and junior
Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) each contributed seven kills.
Junior Amy Kalkoff
(Clear Creek Amana HS, North Liberty, IA) had a nice overall match with 12 digs and three kills. Senior libero
Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) was credited with 11 digs. Making her debut as libero in the third game, sophomore
Claire Martin (Mother McAuley HS, Orland Park, Ill.) picked up eight digs. Freshman Tara VanEarwage
(Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill) performed well gaining 10 digs.
Junior
Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) dished out 23 assists and added 10 digs. Senior
Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) chipped in 17 assists and dug nine.
Monmouth's Alanna Trettin had seven kills for the Scotts and Johnna Schultz contributed 16 assists.
Augustana will play its next two matches at home against two conference teams. The Vikings face off against Millikin on Tuesday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m. and then again on Friday, October 9 against Elmhurst at 7:00 p.m. at the Carver Center.
