Crawford wins two individual events and helps on victorious relay but Vikings fall to Scots

Sophomore Brittney Crawford won the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke and swam 
leadoff on the victorious 200 medley relay on Saturday, January 31. Augustana fell to
Monmouth 135-82 in the final dual meet before the College Conference of Illinois & 
Wisconsin championships begin on February 12 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Sophomore Brittney Crawford (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) won two individual events and led off a winning relay but it was not enough as Augustana fell to Monmouth 135-82 in non-conference swimming action on Saturday, January 31 in Monmouth, Illinois. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 1-3 on the season.
 
Crawford was the leadoff leg on the 200 medley relay which started the meet by winning in a time of 1:59.75. She was joined by junior Emma Novak (Eden Prairie HS, Eden Prairie, Minn.), junior Jordan Johnson (Appleton North HS, Appleton, Wis.) and freshman Kristin Schoenecker (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.). Crawford also won the 50 freestyle in :26.27 and took the 100 backstroke in 1:05.61.
 
The Vikings only won one other event in the meet and it came in the 100 breaststroke when senior Jamie Graf (Lincoln-Way Central HS, Putnam, Ill.) took the 100 backstroke in 1:12.01. Graf also was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.35. She handled the lead-off leg on the 200 freestyle relay team which finished second in 1:46.14. She was joined by senior Laura Pemberton (Fremont HS, Fremont, Neb.), freshman Nicole Olsen (Plainfield East HS, Romeoville, Ill.) and freshman Sara Hovren (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.).
 
Novak finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:03.95) while Olsen took second in the 100 freestyle (:58.73) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:11.42). Schoenecker was third in both the 200 individual medley (2:25.37) and 500 freestyle (5:48.13) and Hovren placed third in the 50 freestyle (:27.48) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:57.62).
 
Johnson was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.69) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:35.94). Pemberton took third in the 100 backstroke (1:07.54) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.46).
 
Freshman Lisa Pohlman-Zordan (Lincoln-Way West HS, New Lenox, Ill.) finished third in the 1000 freestyle (13:15.09) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (1:09.29). Senior Alexis Thompson (Crystal Lake Central HS, Lakewood, Ill.) was fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:30.60 and freshman Elena McNab (Romeoville HS, Romeoville, Ill.) placed fifth in the 100 backstroke in 1:15.79.
 
Augustana's next competition will be at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin beginning on Thursday, February 12.
