as Augustana defeated Momouth 148-64 on Saturday, January 31.MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Augustana men's swimming and diving team rolled to a 148-64 non-conference victory over Monmouth on Saturday, January 31 in Monmouth, Illinois. The Vikings won 10 of 12 events and evened their dual meet record at 2-2 on the season.
Junior
David Sommers (Westlake HS, Thousand Oaks, Calif.) led the way with a pair of individual wins and a leg on a winning relay. He won the 100 butterfly in :54.92 and the 500 freestyle in 5:09.19 and anchored the 200 medley relay to victory in 1:40.35. He was joined on that relay by senior
Aaron Holt (Mt. Vernon HS, Mt. Vernon, Ill.), sophomore
Ian Disteldorf (Brother Rice HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) and freshman
Jacob Speechley (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.).
Holt won the 50 freestyle in :22.71 and led off the winning 200 freestyle relay that clocked a time of 1:30.12 in the final event of the meet. Holt was joined by junior
Felipe Hernandez (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.), Disteldorf and Speechley. Disteldorf won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.23 and Hernandez took the 100 freestyle in :50.01 while also finishing third in the 100 backstroke (1:02.91).
Sophomore
Bryce Dibadj (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.40 and finished second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.27. Junior
Adam Bernardi (Rockford Boylan HS, Belvidere, Ill.) won the 200 individual medley (2:03.83) and placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.58).
The other win for Augustana came in one meter diving where senior
Josh Wielenga (School of Environmental Study, Apple Valley, Minn.) won big with 380.45 points.
Freshman
Miguel Rodriguez (Rockford Boylan HS, Rockford, Ill.) was second in both the 200 freestyle (1:57.74) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.49). Speechley placed second in the 100 butterfly (:55.77) and freshman
Chris Wilson (United Kingdom) placed second in both the 200 individual medley (2:12.46) and 100 freestyle (:52.19). Senior
Timothy Michaels (Pella HS, Pella, Iowa) was third in the 1000 freestyle (11:27.47) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (:52.90).

Michael Duy (Marmion Academy, Aurora, Ill.) took third in the 200 individual medley (2:15.08) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:24.41). Junior
Austin Small (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) was fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:00.46) and the 100 backstroke (1:04.73). Freshman
Brandon Marcy (Riverton HS, Riverton, Ill.) took fourth in the 50 freestyle in :25.37 while sophomore
Robert Chaney (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) was fifth in the same event in :25.65. Junior
Kyle Johnson (Shadow Mountain HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) finished fifth in the 200 freestyle in 2:12.36.
Augustana's next competition will be at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin beginning on Thursday, February 12.
