Wielenga and Sommers post individual wins in swimming loss at Carthage

Junior David Sommers won the 100 butterfly with a time of :52.98 against Carthage on 
Saturday, January 24 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
KENOSHA, Wis. – Senior Josh Wielenga (School of Environmental Study, Apple Valley, Minn.) and junior David Sommers (Westlake HS, Thousand Oaks, Calif.) each posted individual victories in Augustana's 203-62 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin swimming and diving loss to Carthage on Saturday, January 24 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Vikings dropped to 1-2 with the defeat.
 
Wielenga scored 346.75 points to win the one meter diving and Sommers won the 100 butterfly with a time of :52.98. Those were the lone wins for the Vikings of first year head coach Dan Lloyd. Sommers also placed fourth in the 100 freestyle in :50.92 and swam the third leg on the second place 400 medley relay. He was joined by senior Aaron Holt (Mt. Vernon HS, Mt. Vernon, Ill.), sophomore Ian Disteldorf (Brother Rice HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) and freshman Jacob Speechley (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) to record a time of 3:36.32.
 
Holt placed second in the 200 backstroke in 2:00.68 and Disteldorf was second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.90. Freshman Chris Wilson (United Kingdom) took second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.19 and was third in the 500 freestyle in 5:17.69. The 200 freestyle relay of junior Felipe Hernandez (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.), Holt, freshman Miguel Rodriguez (Rockford Boylan HS, Rockford, Ill.) and Speechley was second in 1:29.29.
 
Rodriguez took fourth in the 1000 freestyle (11:53.13) and fifth in the 50 freestyle (:23.62). Junior Adam Bernardi (Rockford Boylan HS, Belvidere, Ill.) placed fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:52.36) and 100 butterfly (:56.65). Sophomore Robert Chaney (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:26.78. Sophomore Bryce Dibadj (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.63. Freshman Victor Wagstrom (Stockholm, Sweden) placed fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:17.12) and Hernandez took fifth in the 100 backstroke (:57.36).
